ok so about the last two weeks,-
Any food I eat makes me sick,
The smell of food makes me sick,
Looking at food...makes me sick...

Any ideals why this is, or what could cause it?
I really dont want to head back to the doc since I already owe about 5-grand in med. bills... so any advice?

It's not certain foods either, its honestly ANY food, picture, smell, ect. ect.:frown2:

My mom used to suffer from a severe anemia when she was about your age, and she felt similar symptoms, so she went to a doctor. Anything food-related made her sick too. The catch is that if you don't see a doctor, you can't be certain of what it is :( I think the safest thing to do is to ask a stomach doc. Otherwise, you'll be jeopardizing your wellbeing :(

Hmmm... maybe the supplements are not the right ones anymore, or not being the right dose... or maybe it can be something else http://smiles.kolobok.us/artists/just_cuz/JC_thinking.gif I bet you need a doc, darling :(

If you're anemic, the only thing you need to fix that is iron. If you're taking iron, it's good to get lots of Vit C to help you absorb it.

Go see a doctor Steph.

Since it is pictures that might even turn you off, it might be worth considering some warfare against your inner food-hater. If you like food again (pick some of the favorite and filling foods from your past) then you will be beating this problem. So, out of spite, pick one that would really uspet this anti-food vibe, and celebrate it. It only makes sense, to eat good food that you like, and fill up a bit.

(Just an idea, of course, there could be some medical reason--but it sounds like you might be up against something doctors might not be patient enough for, if you've already spent so much on them. Anyhow, if you're feeling hopeless and frustrated, I wonder if you are being too hard on yourself. Maybe the rejection of food is an echo of that. Try showing it who is boss, if you wanna try a free approach for a day or two).

thank you bill. i will try that. I have considered it because I am recovering from an eating disorder, however I do not understand why it is making me sick now 4 months later.?. and I was annorexic which doesnt explain not being able to hold it down suddenly?

It might explain it, if there was something that let it (the eating disorder) slip into action again--and 'it' would probably be happy to latch on to ANY excuse not to eat--but who cares? Just have fun eating again. Eating isn't a bad thing. It is a GOOD idea.

One theory about eating that I have (and I'm pretty sure it is scientifically accurate) is that a person who eats A LOT will develop a big appetite (and probably a physically big stomach), and won't feel "full" very easily. I think the opposite is true, as well. If you hacve had a period of anorexia in the recent past, then it might make sense that your body's conditioning has a conditioning/habit for not eating. Anything could've probably set it off. Maybe something not important, but there it is... A sort of negative momentum that might activate under certain circumstances. Just keep in mind that it IS NOT GOOD FOR YOU. It was a mistake, an exaggeration of what can sometimes be a good idea. Make a new habit.

All of that typing is probably off the mark a bit. But maybe you can fine tune it. Eat, and eat well, and feel good whenever something helps THAT sort of habit start to develop. That's what I say.

But I ain't a doctor, which is what you need if it really IS an entirely physical problem.

If it's been less than a week, maybe you're just coming down with a flu and should wait it out. If it's longer, then you should bite the bullet and go to a doctor.

Also, are you very stressed out? Most people have trouble eating during exam season.

*edit* My mom had a period of about a month where she couldn't eat. She just "wasn't hungry" and eating made her feel sick. I think she basically lived off of sunflower seeds and Pepsi, so she ended up in the hospital with an IV drip and went down to about 90 pounds. If it lasts longer than a week, please go to a doctor.

I'm not sure how old you are or if you're using birth control or not, but I felt like that for the first few months of my pregnancy...

Considering no one else suggested it though, I'm guessing that's probably not it...

You forgot that you didn't eat for a whole day???

Get thee to a physician!! Also, I found this online... if you're located in the US maybe it will help... http://www.freemedicalcamps.com/

And in the meantime schedule food at least once a day. Set a cell phone alarm or something. Even if you barf it back up a few hours later your body might at least absorb some of the nutrients...

Another idea might be to drink your food... get some protein shakes and drink juice if that is more palatable to you than solid food.

I agree with everyone else, you should likely see the doctor. I know it is a bit like the pot calling the kettle black, since I've yet to go, but given the anemia it would be best. I've always had issues with any sort of vitamin supplements, after a while of taking them, they begin to make me ill. I can't even tolerate just a basic multivitamin.

Steph I'll confess that I always forget that you are only 17. You seem much older than that. I do remember that when I was a teenager I would go through spells like that. Often I was simply doing too much. I was in school and working 40 hours a week. Between the work from my advanced classes and a job, I would just forget to eat. When I've been hungry for more than an hour or so nothing looks good and I eventually just forgot to eat. It's not the healthiest thing in the world to do, but it just happened. Actually it still does from time to time when I get overly busy. Try to relax and go see a doctor if things persist.

Much Love,
Meg

It sounds as if you are going through a particularly stressful time at the moment - please be gentle with yourself. Don't add yet more anxiety to your life by worrying about not eating - but having said that, please try and eat, little and often may be the best way back to regular meals. I think Billl may be right, a previous condition is taking the opportunity of re-asserting itself - as he says, you need to show it who is in charge and celebrate the goodness of food.

I think you need support - do you have a friend or a member of the family who could be at your side at this stressful time? Maybe someone outside your immediate family circle would be better than a close relative who perhaps has as much anxiety and hope as yourself invested in your present busy exam schedule - I used to find time spent with certain aunts was restorative for me.

Please remember your brain needs fuel! You can't expect it to give its best performance on 'Empty'. But -f this doesn't sort itself out with a bit of TLC towards yourself, then maybe you do need to see a doctor, if only to be certain there is no organic cause for the problem.

Every good wish for a swift return to health.

Interesting!
Oh yes, it's very interesting to see the world dragging you down. Seriously, I've lived it often... I can speak from a humble amount of own experience. It's very much like the horror movie... "Drag me to hell"... though I keep believing that the most interesting episode is that when you find a way to "undrag" yourself, and then behold how the world/hell starves in a constant hunger because it couldn't swallow you. Of course, being the latter the ideal case for any given mortal of our worldly bunch. Defeat is such a bitter taste in the mouth.

I hope you are feeling better now.. If foods turn you off then you should try taking a lot of supplements until you are ok... May be try drinking lot of juice and keep monitoring the volume of water you consume... If you feel its your stomach thats causing it then try taking probiotic food like curd... and just try to resume your eating by starting with a cooked apple with sugar for a day and then start eating your most favorite food of all times in small amount the next day.. If nothing helps its always better to visit a doc ... Wishing you recover from this soon and eat a lot :)
