View Full Version : Thoughts and Affirmations

I just thought I would share. An affirmation is anything you say or think. A lot of what we normally say and think is quite negative and does not create good experiences for us.
We have to retrain our thinking and speaking into positive patterns if we want to change our lives. When we talk about doing affirmations, we mean to make a positive statement about something we want to eliminate from our lives or something we want to create in our lives.
Too often we say "I dont want this in my life" and we forget to state clearly what we do want. To state "I dont want to be sick anymore" does not give the body a clear picture of the health you would like to enjoy, nor does saying "I hate this job" produce a new position.
To create the new experiences you want, you need to clearly declare your desires. So its important to begin creating clear positive statements of what we do want to experience in our world. When you first say an affirmation it will not seem to be true, if it were already true you would not have to do an affirmation.
Affirmations are like planting seeds in the ground, first they germinate then they sprout roots, and then they poke their first little shoots up through the ground. It takes some time to go from a seed into a full grown plant. And so with affirmations it takes some time from the first declaration to the final demonstration. So be patient and have fun doing it.

Do you think saying affirmations aloud or softly would have any affect on your life? Have any of you attempted to say affirmations to yourself, especially in front of a mirror? If so what was your experience?

I hardly ever saw it from this point of view. Maybe that's why many achievements are so tiny that the only one noticing them seems to be the achiever, so to call them. Probably there should be a step in front of a mirror and a go for a bigger deal. But then I wonder... wouldn't that be like embracing too higher a hope? I mean, to what degree is it really important to arrive to a major achievement, when you already know your achievements are going to fade unperceived in comparison to your flops? Probably this could be a subject for discussion on another thread, but I have often wondered about the point of getting what we want when we don't seem to have with whom to share success, but with whom to share our failures, being the latter one's most noticeable feature in the eyes of those around.

I almost missed this response but I am not sure what you mean so I shall dissect:
But then I wonder... wouldn't that be like embracing too higher a hope?
Firstly I must start by pointing out that this method is as simple as it sounds, as simple as I have posted in this thread.
Then you have to select achievable affirmations, and more-so one has to be aware of the things they say or think... if you say "I dont have money" you have chosen your fate. Of course one is not able to confuse the brain into thinking you do have money when you dont but it would be better to reaffirm "Money is tight at the moment but its getting better each day". Thoughts are energy and whatever you put into the universe comes back to you, this includes thoughts as well as actions. So its simply rephrasing yourself or thoughts that will improve your life. Many of the older faiths, like Buddhism are well aware, and teach, how thoughts play a significant role in your life, this is not a new concept at all.
I mean, to what degree is it really important to arrive to a major achievement, when you already know your achievements are going to fade unperceived in comparison to your flops?
I dont understand this question at all, you will have to rephrase it because I see no reason to accept any flops if you are setting out for achievable goals.
I Probably this could be a subject for discussion on another thread, but I have often wondered about the point of getting what we want when we don't seem to have with whom to share success, but with whom to share our failures, being the latter one's most noticeable feature in the eyes of those around.
Why on another thread, what is wrong with discussing the objectives here? As per your statement in bold, you seem to think that happiness comes from an outside source.. I might be mistaken by misinterpreting your statement above but let me assure you, if you are not capable of finding inner happiness for yourself the chances of another providing it for you are nil. If you believe this to be untrue, what happens when another dies or leaves you... does that mean happiness abandons you aswell?
It works this way:
1 You get content and happy being alone, and at peace with yourself.
2 At that point, someone nice will show up, and you will be very happy together.
But you have to take step 1 before step 2 happens.
The things you want in life have got nothing to do with anyone else so why delve into sharing your failures with another... for a start the object is to remove the word failure from your vocab even tho there will be the occasional failures, but dont ask for it. Just looking at your last sentence shows that you are over analyzing. As I said before... this is a very simple philosophy, dont waste time doubting it.
Here is a true story: On one occasion Michael Jordan was asked why he was the best basketball player in the world. He said, because he focused on a visual of the basket for 15 minutes every day. He saw nothing else in his minds eye during that time, not the court, not the other players, not himself and not even the ball. He only saw the basket. He said that if you train your brain to only focus on whatever "your basket" is, he guarantees you will get what you want within in 3 months of doing your fifteen minutes a day. Since his visualisation technique worked for him, they can for you too!
I have put the same technique to the test as Michael recommended and it worked wonders for me. To create the new experiences you want, you need to clearly declare your desires. So its important to begin creating clear positive statements of what we do want to experience. Forget about looking for reasons why it works [or not], JUST DO IT.
Here is a video with Louise Hay that I have only added to the thread this moment, so I will add it onto this response so your dont miss it:
