I'm writing a short story about a regular guy who stumbles upon a protection racket for local businesses. Of course I don't know the truth so what I need is a verisimilar amount that a business like a midsized non chain restaurant like a Chinese takeout might pay per month. Would ten thousand seem reasonable or excessive to you? Or even if it seems excessive, is it believable?

Are you kidding?
It doesn't matter.
Believe-ability is eighth on the list of
necessay conditions for a successful story.
But, of course, I'm under doctor's care.

Thanks, Huck.
So you're saying you'd buy it. You wouldn't say "ten thousand! This guy doesn't know what he's talking about!"

Hey - if these bad guys are 'bad' enough they can name any price they want! Can't they?
It's entirely in your hands.
Good luck.
