I figured it'd be good to make a thread so that we could follow the playoffs together, since there are a few hockey fans here.
Obviously, I'm a Pens fan. I'd love it if they won two (or three or four) cups in a row, on top of Crosby getting the game-winning goal in overtime at the Olympics... that would be epic. I love that he's the same age as me too. What a legend.

I'm still not over last night's Habs loss. Total bull**** refs, no call on interference on that 2nd Caps goal, and a high sticking incident not called right before the goal that tied up the game in the 3rd period.
I don't expect the Habs to win this series, but when they lose games after a 4-1 lead it makes me so angry.

With the way the league is now I don't see it happening, the top seeded teams are all too evenly matched.

Hey Pip, I've always wondered why they are Nicknamed "The Habs"?
OrphanPip

Hey Pip, I've always wondered why they are Nicknamed "The Habs"?
It's because Canadiens in Quebec has a different connotation than Canadian in the more commonly known sense. The area that is now Quebec was called Canada under New France, so Canadian initially meant the inhabitants of the French colony that is currently Quebec. Les habitants is another name for the French residents of Quebec, particularly the poor rural farmers. For some reason those rural poor are more closely associated with being "Canadian" in the sense of colonist because the lords who owned and managed the land were usually not born in Quebec but were from France, or more closely associated with aristocratic France (later on with British collaboration). Habs is an Anglicization of that expression for Quebec settlers.

Montreal, we're up against the number one team in the league, we need the support.
Edit: Everybody likes underdogs right?
Plus, we're a dynasty, we have more cups than any other team, it's just natural for us to win more.
"Founded in 1909, the Canadiens are the longest continuously operating professional ice hockey team and the only existing NHL club to predate the founding of the NHL, as well as one of the oldest North American sports franchises. The franchise is one of the "Original Six" teams, a description used for teams that were part of the NHL from 1942 until the 1967 expansion. With the departure of the Quebec Nordiques in 1995, the Canadiens are the sole NHL team in Quebec. The team's championship season in 1992–93 marks the last time a Canadian team won the Stanley Cup.[3]
The Canadiens have won 24 Stanley Cups (including their first in 1916, before the NHL existed), more than any other team.[4] On a percentage basis, as of 2010, the franchise has won 25% of all Stanley Cup championships contested after the Challenge Cup era, making it one of the most successful professional sports teams of the traditional four major sports of Canada and the United States"
Doesn't that make you want to rout for us?

Aww, yeah that sucks. After the Pens, I was really rooting for Montreal (I'd rather they win than the Canucks). My dad says that it's unpatriotic of me to root for a team who's base is in America, what do you think? Haha, it's sacrilege to root for any team other than the Habs in Montreal. I don't think there's anything wrong with rooting for an American team every once in a while. Anything but Toronto, it's never acceptable to root for the Leafs. At least I'll still have the fond knowledge that the Leafs finished last in the conference when the Habs lose to the Caps.

Yuck.
Tonight bad bad bad goal from a botched line change, big coaching mistake.
Four powerplay goals, still can't believe it, defense falling apart and playing slow late in the game especially.
Halak runs out of energy half way through the game and should have been replaced after the 3rd goal.
Worse of all, Markov injured in the first and might be out for the entire series T_T.
