My son and I

this is my first time trying to write poetry.

I live to love you
to give you my life
to care for you
to teach you what’s right

I hope I don’t make the mistakes of the past
I promise to do right by you
to make you a proper man
to give the life you deserve

I wish you had met him
the one that gave me life
the man who lived for me
and taught me what was right and wrong

I hope you remember me
when I no longer realize who I am
my name, my life I hope I taught you right
I wish I could spent more time with you my son

The world is always keeping me away from you
But I will find away to be with you
at the end of the day I will come home
never losing a thought of you
