while loved ones sleep
I dream what was and what will never be
and search dark corners
for a whiff of familiar perfume
or the faintest echo of a laugh

could they forget me here
and leave me alone
to wander the beautiful earth?

where are the strong sweet voices
that would sing me home?

The beauty of the poem is consuming. Here the dreamer is a real dreamer as the rest of dreamers dream of things that fleet but here the poet dreams of the thing or search thru something enduring
I like the poem so much

What an effusion of deeply-felt emotion! The final lines remind me of Villon's Ou sonts les neiges d'antan? (Where are the snows of yesteryear?)

Hack, you seem to be very inspired these days! here is another tender sad poem whose silence vibrates with aspiration for a familiar, friendly word from "far" --- and who knows, in certain circumstances an aspiration may have the power of realisation... matter and energy are exchangeable.. and someone might "sing you home"... with a little patience, sharp ear...
Both your last poems are as if overheard from what's going on in my mind... rather amazingly!
But more imporantly - your "Silence" is another proof of your subtle talent at work!
Warm wishes - Bar

Sorry hack, I could have sworn I'd commented on this before, but obviously I didn't.

I really like this poem, with its quiet thoughtful, reflective tone. beautifully executed, thanks. H
