She changes like the weather
and howls just like the wind
as all the foreign countries
exploit her to no end.

"She changes like the weather" because the miners take from her soil, platinum, gold, silver, uranium, copper, zinc, and on and on and on for the rest of the worlds investment and pleasure.

And just for good measure:

We don't want the diamonds
and nor do we need
the gaping wounds it leaves.

It is gripping; for it is exactly what is happening there all the time and she is emptied and exploited. But this is not the plight of Africa alone; the rest of other poor countries are also changing at the same shocking rate. Of course Nepal, a country is not excluded from the list.

The poem echoes the voices of the destitute all over the world.
