Lord Raven

I close my eyes
and in dreams
feel the touch
of your cold lips
brushing against mine,

a flutter of
raven feathers
riding upon the ebon
tide,

uplifted by the night
winds, in the distances
I hear your cry,

cloaked in the darkness
star-gatherer,
you traverse
between worlds,

caught in the
space where life
and death
balance,

you come
as I sleep,
hushed
on your wings,

and someday
you will slip
in through the window
as I lay,

and steal
my soul
away....

I love the hyperbole (as I like to see it as) of 'star-gatherer'. In fact I'm going to steal that term for my next poem and I'm ready with my lawyer :argue: I hope you don't mind but it has rather inspired me!

This poem borders on a fantasy of mine of someone coming in the middle of the night to whisk me away to great(er) places. Though there is strong ambiguity in here also, it's quite tense to read which makes it enjoyable.

Nice one again DM. I remember the term hyperbole, and it is a fitting device to describe the presence of Lord Raven.

Dreamy and dark, a bit of Poe, a bit of Tolkien, a bit of romance. It makes my mind wonder. Keep writing. : )

I loved the lines:

cloaked in the darkness
star-gatherer,
you traverse
between worlds,

and also

caught in the
space where life
and death
balance,

Exceptional, it really fires the imagination.

Thank you all for your coments. I can say Poe certaintly was a strong influence in the crafting of this poem. And it was my intent to create a sort of dark, dreamy bit of romance.

I am always happy to inpsire others, and by all means if the line has moved you than make use of it.
