Hello All :)

I am a German Language undergrad student and I have to write a research paper over a literary work (novel, play, poems, etc). The catch is that it must be by a German-speaking author who wrote it between 1945 and 1989. Yes, I know my major literary figures for this time period, but if anybody has a really good suggestion for an author or literary work, I would love to hear it!

Thank you! :)

For german poems: Guenter Eich, there's a poem: Inventur (http://www.onlinekunst.de/februar/Eich_Inventur.htm), or Ingeborg Bachmann, she was an Austrian writer.
Some German Novelists are, Guenter Grass, but his novels are perhaps too large for your research paper. Heinrich Boell wrote novels and short stories, e.g "Wanderer kommst Du nach Spa... (http://www.google.de/url?sa=t&source=web&ct=res&cd=5&ved=0CBsQFjAE&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.as.ysu.edu%2F~laviehme%2FCour ses%2Fother%2FWanderer.pdf&rct=j&q=wanderer+kommst+du+nach+spa&ei=oKGxS6nqGI2C_AbEvNTnAw&usg=AFQjCNGKVqijjiy4PIuHMfX0OuqZdHX8Og)", Hermann Hesse.

That's for the moment ...

Additionally to Boell and Hesse, I would recommend Thomas Mann's "Bekenntnisse des Hochstaplers Felix Krull (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bekenntnisse_des_Hochstaplers_Felix_Krull)".

I would recommend the play Des Teufels General by Karl Zuckmayer. Produced in 1946 it just meets the dateline criteria and has a very clear plot that wouldn't be too difficult to use for a research paper.
