Are there any David Hume fans here? I would presume so.... If so, once one has read his works, who are some of his successors, whose works might be considered essential reads?

Kant (semi-famously) credited Hume for awakening him from his "dogmatic slumber" in the introduction to his Prolegomena to Any Future Metaphysics

It might be worth reading the introduction to see if you're interested in learning more (or if the style is to your liking, keeping in mind other translations are out there.)

Also, it's been years, so I am not ready to go around explaining this stuff--here's a Wikipedia link that might help decide whether it's worth looking further into for you:

(btw, thanks for reminding me about Hume--I read some parts of his Inquiry Concerning Human Understanding years ago, also, but I've been meaning to get back to him. From some recent mentions in some articles here and there, I've started to wonder if I maybe failed to catch his talent as writer when I was reading him.)

Bryan Magee has a lot of good things to say about him in "Confessions of a Philosopher", which I would recommend as an essential read.
