Here in the country
many are content.
They have forgotten winter
and they remember love.
“Love,” they coo to each other,
“–that was as good as it got!”
Winter, I remember on their behalf,
was backbreaking, cruel and long.
But they don’t remember winter.
They remember love...

This is the beauty of life and we remember love not the strife to have love

Hi Prince,
I like this, it is elegently expressed as always. But I wonder if it wouldn't be more immediate/powerful if you cut the first two lines...

I agree with Hawkman about the first two lines, but the entirety of the poem is so strong and reminiscent...like an old Christmas card found from an old lover...you can forget the pains, but you always remember the love.
Bravo!
love

Blazeofglory, paperleaves & Hawkman: thank you.
I doubt at the moment that I would like it without the opening lines.
