Sometimes you Don’t want to Wear Something

I’ve been going through “The Memory Stash” a box of family pictures and two tell me what I already know about fashion. Sometimes you don’t want to wear something. In the first picture it’s me at the county fair with a frown on my mug. For me it was the tie. My mom made it special but it always gave me trouble. I hated it even more when she made me wear it to the fair and people began to stare.
“It looks cute,” she told me. But I was shy and felt like Tupac did that there were, “All eyes on me.” My chin began quivering like a baby’s.
Instead of a fun day I remember it now in negative terms. They are: stinkin’, lousy, horrifying. So we all got upset, Moms, Pops, and me.
The second shot a generation later is of my daughter Michelle on Halloween. She’s got dark hair and eyes, just perfect for a Minnie Mouse. She’s got on a blouse and a polka-dot skirt, and black stockings to look like little mouse legs which strangely enough is what they were anyway. She’s got a black mouse nose and mascara whiskers too. She should be happy. She ain’t. She’s crying.
For her it was the ears. “They look cute,” we informed her. She wasn’t having it. You can easily see the tears on her face looking so real you want to wipe them off. So naturally we all get upset, the Moms, the Dads, the Michelle.
So I guess everybody at one time or another has that feeling. Sometimes you wear don’t want to something.

Steven, I'll just respond to you here. I read this earlier today and was struck by how I completely got the parent perspective all of a sudden. When your child is suffering, so are you. This piece was touching, in the sense that you explore both the parent and child perspective and conclude that the parent is wrong. I'll try not to make my little boy wear pink!

Its that feeling of uncontrol, that horrible feeling where love forces you to do something that you dont want to, but you do it anyways out of love, for your mom, or your dad, or your lover.

Sure it looks cute, but that doesnt matter, because you dont want to look "cute" you just want to look like you.

Short N sweet, to the point. Excellent
