Happy Birthday, Janine! :)
An interview with Janine:
Why are we doing this interview thing?
We do it every year, remember?…and probably because people are curious…
Are you sure you want to do this?
Sure thing!
Are you male or female?
Female most of my life…haha…thought that might get people talking…
What is your name (if you don't mind sharing it with us)?
Janine…I just failed to be clever when I signed up here…
Got milk?
I am loving milk more and more…maybe craving calcium?
Who stole the cookie from the cookie jar?
Twas me! A snicker doodle - my favorite cookie of all times!
If you had a personal theme song what would it be?
Ocean Gypsy
What makes you keep coming back to the Forum?
Incredible friends here on Litnet… I am sooo blessed!
It has been a year since the last interview. What have been the high and low points?
Making some tough decisions and seeing them through, dealing with a difficult family situation was my low point.
Being with my granddaughter at Christmas or anytime of the year will always be my high point.
The best and worst books you have read during last year?
I started a book, “The Marble Faun” by Hawthorne, and stopped, not like me…can’t say it’s bad, but didn’t captivate me…Best book was “Boy in the Bush” by D.H.Lawrence…I would like to read that one again.
The biggest surprises of the past year (both pleasant and unpleasant)?
Someone on Youtube from the UK send me a copy of an obscure Branagh movie and some narrations he did of Wilfred Owens poetry. My good friend from Japan sent me stamps and a Dali magnet from Spain. Petrarch send me a postcard from her trip to England. Malwethien also send me a postcard from Amsterdam. These little surprises mean more to me. Unpleasant I would rather not mention…let’s just stick with the flipside…the good stuff..
What has been the the biggest change in your life since your last birthday?
Working through family problems has given me more insight into various things; which turned out to be positive in the end. I guess one could call that a change. Also, I am less hard on myself now.
Have you studied literature as a subject in college?
Somewhat in art college; but rather unconventionally speaking…still it was a good experience.
Do you feel the divine spark of life within you or do you consider yourself a mechanical thing?
I think everyone possesses some ‘spark’ which is unique to them; I don’t know if it’s ‘divine‘; but it’s worthwhile and it’s magical, beautiful, distinct and transcends the menial. One needs to recognise and utilize it.
Do you have any pets? What are their names?
Been there, done it…had lovely names (LOL) such as Flipper, Blue Baby (parakeets), Wee Lassie (dog), Kitty Kat and Skeeter Bug, later Pandora and Samantha (cats), Sheba (dog), two gerbils (names?), one guinea pig (forget his name), Thumper and Hopscotch (rabbits), Radar (pet goose lived on our lake)…that’s a lot of food and vet bills…now you see why we are now pet less.
Given the option, what animal would you choose to be?
This year I will be a furry little groundhog…LOL….I think they sleep all winter!
How did you meet your significant other?
Been there, done it; not looking for another…I’m jaded! LOL
What is the one thing you must do before you die?
Figure out who I will give my junk to…don’t laugh…it’s a bit of a dilemma.
Do you believe in ghosts?
I think I do. My son took a photo of one, not even realizing he had done so. It was pretty impressive and goes along with the story his friends related to him of a ghost in their house.
What song is in your head at the moment?
Dante’s Prayer ~ Lorenna McKennitt
Which book are you reading at the moment?
Been a reading bum lately; not reading a thing currently. Been lazy and watching a lot of movies instead. I go thought these dry spells; then I get inspired and read like crazy again….there’s hope.
What type of an author would you be?
Dramatic and tragedic…what else?
The last book you finished reading?
“The Little Prince”
What are you wearing at the moment?
Actually, a little black dress (but it’s far from ‘little’ on me) and a teal sweater and teal suede loafer type shoes.
Favorite TV shows?
“Life”, although they took it off the air. I am not much of a TV watcher. Have to watch “Life” online, but I love the show. I also watched “House” on DVD’s. I like the new British crime series “Wallander“; waiting forsecond season. Craig Fergunson Late Show makes me laugh.
Which LitNet members would you like to meet in person if you could?
Virgil, Haunted, Snowqueen, Petrarch, Max, pussnboots, qimissung, Fifth Element, toni (and her sisters), Manolia, Malwethien, quasimodo, madahuri, Downing, Claes, Grace, LilyAdams, and all the moderators, because I want to thank them personally for doing such a great job…and dozens more of my friends here; forgive me for not naming you all; I'm sure you know who you are….so many good true friends!
Favorite post on the Forum?
I think it was a post by Logos, wherein she relayed various messages she received from former forum members; one person in particular begged to be banned, because they were so addicted they could not control themselves and stay off the forum. I thought that one was truly funny!
Favorite thread?
D.H.Lawrence Short Stories of course; although shamefully, I have not posted in there for sometime…we must start a new short story discussion soon, before the thread disappears.
What's your favourite sound?
I love the sound of the surf, the sound of a train in the distance at night and the sound of soft rain in the summer falling on my roof (sleep upstairs), and finally, the sounds of silence.
Last food did you have?
Wendy’s burger and fries….otherwise don’t eat much fast food.
Last words you said out loud?
Kiss me….LOL…yeah, I wish…
Last person you hugged/kissed?
My sister.
What question would you like to ask yourself?
Why am I doing this interview again?
What should you be doing at the moment instead of answering these questions?
Heading for bed…need that beauty sleep at my age…
Last dream you remember having?
I dream every night and recall normally them when I wake up; but now I can’t recall any except a nightmarish one I had recently, in which I went to visit my grand-daughter and my son said she was off somewhere with her other grandparents. I was pretty upset and jealous.
What is your most bizarre book memory?
Some book I read in college, I believe it was written in Poland. It was quite bizarre….post war or something.
Who is your best friend and how long you have known them?
Probably my friend, Lynne, because we have known each other all our lives. Pretty much we can say anything to each other. Otherwise I have a lot of friends I confide in and feel comfortable with. I am truly blessed in this category.
What’s the worst thing you’ve ever done?
I think there are too many to mention and recalling them is painful, but non of which broke the law or had me imprisoned, so I wouldn’t worry about them now.
If you had to lose one of your senses, which would you choose and why? Absolutely can’t choose this time; as I get older I need them all.
Are you mostly happy with life or are you still in pursuit?
Will be in pursuit until my last breath, I believe.
How often do you tell lies?
Never (this proves I’m lying).
What gives your life meaning?
Creativity and I have a new meaning in life in having a grand-daughter to love with all my heart.
If you were a colour, what colour would you be and why?
Lavender. I’ve always loved lavender!…but I like blue, too.
What makes you laugh?
People who can laugh at themselves. A good comedy, but not too silly; something subtly humorous.
What was the happiest period of your life and why?
Probably college but then my life was mixed when I had my son. I was extremely happy with a child; but not so with my marriage.
If you could be a Disney character who or what would you be and why?
Nemo…. Currently, it’s my granddaughter’s favorite movie, so I would be a well loved fish!
Do those animated smilies ever get tired?
Think of them day after day, dancing or crashing computers or laughing or crying till the end of time... Is that what crashed my old computer? I like those emoticons..they seem friendly enough…I like ones that Max and Haunted have come up with, too.
One thing you would like to do before your next birthday?
Sky Dive…just kidding…going to the beach would satisfy me; and not via a parachutte.
What will you be doing in the year 2035?
Well…I hope I will still be breathing….what a question!
Did you answer all of the questions?
Yes, although some were painful….
One final word of wisdom for LitNet users?
Stop arguing endlessly about trival things….and be happy!
And….
Do these interviews so we can find out what you are really all about.
What would you like to ask to the person to be interviewed after you?
Are you sure you want to do this interview?

Oh my gosh...this is early and so wonderful! I laughed so hard at most of these; such fun...I see a lot of Ken's and few Lawrence's....I am happy to have them at my party, along with papaya's darling pooch. I'm dead tired, because I was out tonight with my family for dinner; now digestion is taking over and making me sleepy. I will answer each one of you tomorrow, when I can keep my eyes open. You all outdid yourself this year...so far, I have been thoroughly entertained and amused with your gifts....promise to be back soon to thank you each individually. It's one minute after my actual birthday....seems I have to claim that big number...eekkk... Thank you everyone, especially downing who started this party! Be back when I am more awake....

Ok, I am back…I needed my beauty sleep…..now it’s officially my birthday. I want to thank all of you sincerely. I laughed so hard last night and went to bed feeling great and very well loved...love those birthday endorphins! Also, my mother and I went out for dinner with my son, his lovely wife and my beloved granddaughter, Brooke; who was totally adorable. I will post a link later of her dancing and enjoying her first Shamrock shake. I have to start from the beginning here.
downing,, my dearest friend, you know me so well....I think you were my first friend on Litnet....probably you and Virgil. Thank you so much for starting my wonderful birthday thread. Is that cake Romanian? It's looks so delicious...hummm...coconut..yum. I think I will have a piece now. Ken's a riot in HP! I don't own that film, but should get it from the library this week, just to watch his comedic performance. That last photo is stunning! I love purple iris. It looks like they're iris...am I right? Lovely photo. I will copy it and keep for all times. Bring on spring!
Thank you Scher and for putting up with me sending my interview in so late and thank you for your well-wishes.
Thanks neilgee, nice to see you at my party. By the way, I love your avatar.
Papaya…. hilarious! I laughed so hard last night :smilielol5: when I saw this. Love the hat….can I get one of these? It will fit my head :conehead:! Is that a dress she is wearing? I love polka dots….but most of all her expression is enigmatic. Where do you find these priceless pooch photos? Those gifts look enticing, too. Thanks so much for being so thoughtful.
Max, my good friend, the hopeless romantic, I love the blue banner! Wow, you did a great job on with the type. The lively strawberries are fun and the cake looks delicious; did you bake it? Ah…candles…I love them…so romantic...candlelight and a single red rose...lovely. Thank you so much for making my birthday such a treat. You are so creative, but most of all you are such a good friend, listening to my many woes from time to time and never saying I bore you.
Virgil, my fine 'old' friend….(NOT referring to your age, of course)…I will always mention you; you also were one of my first friends on this site and no doubt we will always be good friends. We already have a request today to do another Lawrence story - see the SS thread. I laughed my head off seeing that snowblower - it’s a monster one...the cadillacs of snowblowers!….makes my neighbor’s little snowblower look like a toy. You definitely are a lot younger and thinner than that guy.:D  I love the cat card, especially, the ‘sweet and adorable’ part. Hope you are right and it’s a wonderful year; so far this thread is a good sign. Puss’ bow and glasses are really funny. Ah, now to the YT clips. I loved them all! I did see 2 of them before, but two were new, so I was thrilled to find them and put them in my YT playlist. I came across one I need to share with you. It’s from a documentary I own on L. That cake looks cool…..love the variety of candles. Is that carrot cake? Ummm….I had one candle last night on my cheesecake.
Daniel, how did you know? Yes indeed, give me Ken anytime as the brooding, moody Hamlet. I didn’t realise I was actually your first friend on Litnet....that's cool to know. I feel badly now that I didn’t list you by name…but I did add 'there were many more friends I would like to meet'. You are one of them; since I know we could discuss movies/directors endlessly.
Bienvenu, thanks for coming to my birthday and the well wishes and the great photo of my author. One can see the keen intelligence in his eyes. I love it! Enjoy the party!
billl, is that me skydiving? I laughed so hard :smilielol5:…..you made good use of the new emoticons….terrific and so clever…thanks…it’s very funny! By the way, 'skydiving' would be the last thing on earth I would ever be caught doing. Hahha...better the emoticons play out my fantasy or I would end up like this guy :Angel_anim:.
Haunted, my dearest sweet and creative friend….you did a great job!!!:thumbs_up….I laughed my head off. I would welcome Ken Hamlet being so close anyday. Not me dearest, he's putting a smile on my face, too...I wonder what he’s doing with his hands(?) to bring on such a smile from my lips and that twinkle in my eyes…..only we will know…..hahah…..It’s a winner once again! :thumbs_up The perfect gift to feed my Ken fantasy! Thank you with all my heart. I will keep it forever!
Gilliatt, you’re another one I thought of, when I wrote ‘many more friends’…after all, we share that artist thing and love of old paper memorbilia. I love that old sheet music! I even love movies with Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland….but I have not seen this one; I will put it on my list. I own another with Rooney that introduced Judy to the screen. It’s corny, but fun. Music by Gershwin is fabulous! Love the man’s works. Wasn’t it you encouraged me, a long time back, to aquire an old book from my library? I did buy it; it’s from the 1800’s…cool huh? I will have to photograph it to show you.
symphony, just attending my party and your well-wishes is good enough gift for me and means the world, good friend. I would love to meet you someday, too.
Soundofmusic, I see you made use of the new party guys…I love them! Thanks for the birthday wishes and attending this fun party.
Lulim, thank you and I love that purple field…it’s amazing…do you know what flower it is? I wish I was there right now...it's looks to be warm. Thanks for being so thoughtful.
Toni, my beautiful, sweet, thoughtful friend, thank you for the cool Ken photo (he is divine - did you see any movies yet?) and the beautiful strawberry cheescake (humm…love cheescake!) and the Lawrence letters are marvelous….the man never stopped writing! I copied the adorable Nemo to send to Brooke. She will love it, since it sparkles! It’s precious.
Jozanny, nice to see you at my party. I love Susan Boyle - how did you know? A CD will be terrific. I actually got a few itunes gift cards from my son and his wife and will be getting some new music real soon for my new ipod nano. I can’t wait to pick them out. My motto...one can never have enough music! Thanks so much! Enjoy the party!
Claes, good to see you here. Yes I have missed our little chats, too; but I realized you were probably super busy with work. I might have a few tech questions for you soon, if you don’t mind. I like those party emoticons…they look so happy and carefree! Thanks! Enjoy the cake!
Mary, thank you for coming to my party…it’s fun so far, isn’t it? 'Mwah to you,' also…..by the way, what does 'Mwah mean? ….I’m a little daft sometimes. Thanks for your birthday wishes!
mona amon, glad to see you here, too. Thanks for the flashing “Happy Birthdays!” They are so pretty. Enjoy the party!
Fifth, another good dear friend. One reaction for the three gorgeous men:brow:….ou..la...la...darling! I just saw Purefoy in a “Mayor of Casterbridge“. The man is lovely, especially his Scottish accent in that film; love when he blew the wheat dust off of Elizabeth Jane‘s dress…he can do that to me anyday!:yesnod: :drool5: - in response to your photo. Is he really Scottish? Cool Ken photo, too…he looks intelligent and strong in that one, which he is. He still has what it takes; a very sexy man! Hummm….Hugh Laurie is delicious. I have liked him for a long time. He’s been in Ken films. He even dated Emma Thompson before Ken married her. I would say they had something in common, even though the marriage fell through. I would still like to have been Emma just the same...now she has another hunky husband. I guess she knew how to pick them.
Sapphire, lovely sparkling birthday wish…so pretty and MY colors! Thank you so much. And yes, I will work on getting a new story posted soon (I have now read them all!)…I am feeling ready for a little L discussing again; I have been in L withdrawal and I refuse to go to rehab. Happy to see you on the L thread and at my cool party.
manolia, you were one of my first friends, too! We are veterans here. I miss our little chats. I hope all is well with you. Thanks for your lovely wishes and attending my party…once again, those busy little emoticons are dancing their hearts out….they are so cute. They sure like to party hardy! Reminds me of my grand-daughter dancing in her jammies……here’s the link and the clip:

Hey Janine :) James Purefoy isn't Scottish, he's from Somerset which is in the south of England. I've never seen The Mayor of Casterbridge, I'll have to check that one out. I saw a whole lot of him in Rome though, a whole lot. If you know what I mean?

I did recall that you told me he was not Scottish before. He sure pulls off the accent perfectly in the A&E production. I love that film. Ciaran Hinds stars in it as well; and he's superb. Well, it seems I have to get my library to order me a copy of "Rome" if you say you see a lot of Purefoy in it...and I get your drift completely...sounds good to me! ou la la....

Those clips are adorable Janine. She seems so confident. She's no shy little one. You said it!...and she has a mind of her own, too. Last night my son tried to photograph her and she just would not cooperate - that's a new one. Thanks for looking at the clips. I just love them....best birthday present is having her in my life. She is such a delight and a blessing. She's a very active toddler....my son said she is heading for the terrible twos....better them than me. Grandparents can send them home when they misbehave. But that is rare with her. She's very independent minded and confident. I think that is good.

Happy Birthday, Janine! I got you this warehouse of computers:
http://www.treehugger.com/old-computers-in-warehouse.jpg
(Random Guy in the Background Not Included)
Now, if you ever have computer problems, you can grab another one from storage. Problem solved. The cost of this warehouse was astronomical, but don't worry about it. I'm sure you'll come up with something of equal value to give me. You'll have to be creative, though, since I have a separate warehouse for pretty much everything already. So think expensive, but un-warehoused.
I also got you the entire Dutch Renaissance:

Lots of Stuff Like This

And This
Do with it what you like. I thought about just destroying it to annoy stlukesguild, but instead I decided to put it to some use. Maybe you could make some money off of it. I don't know. Just get it out of my head. It's subtle iconography that I can never get until someone explains it to me is making me feel stupid.

andave ya, glad to see you make my party. Thanks for your birthday wishes; you are so flattering and that was truly nice.
caspian, happy to see you didn't miss the party...it truly does rock! Thanks for you cool Turkish greetings.
Eye, you weren't late at all. Now that first cake - is there a message in it - like I am Miss Piggy? hahah...I like the cat cake, too....you always come up with funny entertaining objects. Both cakes look tasty. Thank you!
Quark, my good friend, you never fail to amuse me :smilielol5: and make me laugh. I could use a whole warehouse of computers - you never know when you might need a part. I love that art period...so thanks for the collection. I won't whisper a word to stlukes.

(...) Lulim, thank you and I love that purple field…it’s amazing…do you know what flower it is? I wish I was there right now...it's looks to be warm. Thanks for being so thoughtful.
Hi Janine, it's lavender. In the Provence, in the south of france, they cultivate it on fields like this. I haven't been there, but I imagine it to be a great place to be in summer when the fields are in flower and the air full of fragrance.

It's amazing! I have grown lavender in my yard, but only one little singular plant. These fields are so impressive. Can you imagine what they smell like? It must be heavenly; although, I am somewhat allergic to lavender. I took a shower once in lavender soap and could not stop sneezing. I still bring fresh sprigs into the house sometimes. I mix it with other flowers in the springtime for a pretty bouquet. The photo is so beautiful. I will copy it for my offline files.
Omg she is soooo adorable!!!
Yeah, that is her in motion. Is she too much? That's a very active 22 month old. I laughed so hard at each and watched them now about 10 times or more. I love her dancing style. She definitely takes after me, in loving the milkshake! Thanks for looking, Daniel...we all think she is pretty adorable, too. I will post some of the recent Christmas photos in the 'pictures taken by you' thread soon. It's so great being a grandma!

Max, my good friend, the hopeless romantic
That may not be for long :brow: :p
I love the blue banner! Wow, you did a great job on with the type. The lively strawberries are fun and the cake looks delicious; did you bake it? Ah…candles…I love them…so romantic...candlelight and a single red rose...lovely. Thank you so much for making my birthday such a treat.
I'm glad you liked it all, and I'm glad you had a magnificent day with the family
You are so creative, but most of all you are such a good friend, listening to my many woes from time to time and never saying I bore you.
I will respond in an exquisite mixture of English from several epochs: "Ye cannot bore me, darling. Ye dunno how. Got it?" :smilielol5:

Good; in that case, will you change your avy back to the blue one with the long black hair? I like that one best. It's more 'hopeful'.

Happy Birthday, Janine (a bit late, but also the second message). I don't know if you'll like this, your love for a certain other Englishman is well documented, but I thought you might enjoy this, too!
May this year be a blessed one for you, Janine, filled with good friendships and many, many Brooke-filled days!

Thank you qimisung, my good friend....neat photo...I like it! Looks saucy.
Is that an actor who played Tom Jones? I don't recognise him; but if so, I do like him because of his accent; you are right there, Max! haha.. I like other accents, too, so if you have one I will automatically think you are exotic! :D I especially love Scottish accents, but British is pretty cool too; if it's not that high class British that sounds very snobbish. No offense Brits. I prefer more down to earth British accents and ofcourse I am crazy over Kenneth Branagh's voice and mixed accent (he was really born in Ireland). He does great narration with a lot of feeling in his voice.

Thank you, Max. And yes, Janine, I got it for your because you are a saucy girl! :D The actor playing Tom Jones is Albert Finney, quite a handsome guy in his youth. Not an uppperclass guy, I don't think, very much of the people. :)

Over the years, and due to much exposure to films and TV episodes, I have tried to develop an exquisite melange of talking styles :D There are words I say in Brit, words I say in Irish, words I say in Southern US, words I say in Northern US and so on. Of course I need the personal real exposure to perfect the mixture I have. Now, come to think of it, I have to be rather crazy to talk in a mixture of accents http://smiles.kolobok.us/artists/just_cuz/JC_see_stars.gif http://smiles.kolobok.us/artists/just_cuz/JC_wonky.gif

I recall to have seen him portraying Winston Churchill in The Gathering Storm (2002). Great Film and performances.

Oh my gosh, that is a young Albert Finney?.....I thought he looked familar, but would not have guessed it was him. He was quite handsome when he was young. No, not the upper class accent I find a bit irritating, especially when I am am trying to listen to an audiobook narrations. Finney does seem more down to earth. I like him in "Amazing Grace"...that was a good movie.

Yeah, that's a really good movie. You should see it. I would like to watch it again. I think my library owns it. I need to take a trip to my library soon and get some more recent movies they got in not long ago. I looked on their site adn they have some good ones.
Something like that :)
I highly recommend that you see it  Yes, I think I will track that one down. I will check library to see if they have it; if not they can order it from me from another library in the county. I haven't requested any for sometime so I am sure they will be happy to do that. It's a good deal - free movie rental!
I just watched another 10 part miniseries from HBO..."Band of Brothers"...it was extraordinary...not for the weak hearted though. As they say, 'war is hell'. Did you see it by any chance? It was very well done. The director of "The Gathering Storm" directed some of the episodes...interesting.

I saw it twice, but I don't own it. That's a real mistake. Being such a masterpiece, I should find me a way to own it for once and make it a part of my collection
