Hi, guys! My name is Romy and I just registered for for this forum because I am desparately looking for some help on Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre.

I am currently working on an essay which should be about the comparison of the nature/culture conflict in Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre referring to the love relationships of Heathcliff-Catherine-Edgar and Mr.Rochester-Jane-St.John.

Could anybody help, please? I am absolutely stuck...:crash:

Cheers!

From what I remember of Wuthering Heights, Heathcliffe is madly in love with Catherine, but she ends up marrying Edgar (I think...) For sure though, Mr. Rochester harbors secret feelings for Jane, and Jane harbors feelings for Mr. Rochester, but they can't get married due to a complication, so Jane ends up staying with St. John and his sisters. St. John proposes, but not out of love, because he does not believe he deserves love, due to his dedication as a clergyman.

I loved these two stories. What class are you writing the essay for; that would determine how you handle the subject matter.

Heathcliffs and Catherines love is sensual, intense, sado-masochistic, obsessive, full of greed and unfulfilled desires.

Rochester and Jane have deep longing that never quite makes it to sensuality.
Jane will not go against her morals to fulfill their mutual desire; and only returns to the man when he is broken, and dependent.
