Oh, why must love always be so fleeting?
I can so vividly remember when,
The two of us, our hearts, in sync, beating.
Tell me, long-lost lover, where have you been?

Engulfed by your electric memories,
I'm sent swirling, twirling beyond my choice,
To a fervent june and the summer's breeze,
And the striking symphony of your voice.

Each moment, that summer, just like a dream.
Awakened only by September's chill.
So quickly you had forgotten it seemed,
While I sit here alone, loving you still.

My heart, it still beats, forsaken and blue,
Truth is, my sweet, that its beating for you.

*This was a school assignment. I generally write in free verse, so this was weird for me.
