Hi everyone!
I just saw a thread discussing strongest female character. I wonder what are the weakest male characters you ever came across. (I don't mean physically.) As for me two of the weakest male characters are:

Edgar Linton from Wuthering Heights
and
Angel Clare from Tess of the D'Urbervilles

Hahaha, good thought for a thread. Yes Edgar Linton is very weak. I guess there is someone like Benjy from The Sound and the Fury, but he's mentally disabled. If I think of someone else I'll come back here.

Curley from Of Mice and Men is certainly a weak male character, in my opinion.

Thanks to all who are taking interest in it. Hope the list goes on.:seeya:

I agree with Tertius Lydgate, Angel Clare, Edgar Linton etc. What about Arthur Dimmesdale in The Scarlet Letter? He suffered greatly, eventually confessing, but he let Hester suffer for years while keeping quiet. I'm watching the dvd of He Knew He Was Right by Trollope at the moment, so Louis Trevelyan is also up there. Get a grip man.....:smile5:

I have not read The Scarlet Letter yet. I have it on my 'To Read' list.
A little request to all- Plz write the name of author too. It makes things clear. Thanks again.:smile5:

Tertius Lydgate is the young aspiring Doctor in George Eliots "Middlemarch".

I agree with Edgar Linton being weak...seems like is was an obvious one. He actually annoyed me.

Though I am only halfway through the novel, and I could yet be proven wrong, I am finding Clifford Chatterley to be a weak male character. I'm not choosing him for his being handicapped...it's more of his neediness for Constance and uhmmm...that nurse (I can't remember her name) that leaves me thinking he is weak. Like I said, he may be redeemed. When I finish the novel I'll let you all know!
