View Full Version : Link Broken Problem

Hey there's been this problem with the site in which I go to another page and then it says that "the link is broken". This has happened a moderate amount of times and I've been fine with it, but as it has increased recently over the past few days I would just like to ask if there's any way to resolve this matter. I know it's not my connection because everything else works fine. Is there anyone else here whom this happens to?

It afflicts me too Daniel, perhaps because I do not clear my cache--though of course my inner troll gets paranoid during my hate posting periods--but that is more about my fear of uselessness.
I have nothing literary I want to chat about, and here I am (sigh)--but yes, LN apparently is not fond of being a visited site.

Does this seem that it has been happening more often? I wonder if this happens to everyone.

It's probably a server issue. Everyone experiences it.

It has suddenley started happening over the last couple of days when it hardly ever happened. The last time it happened was when there was some maintenance or something last year.

I have a similar issue since last night. I log in, surf the forum a bit, and then all links suddenly freeze. I get no error messages. Just the links stop working and the forum becomes completely inaccessible to me. I suppose it may have to do with maintenance or backup procedures on the server side. What's strange is that it hasn't happened in quite a long time, for me at least.

Something is going on. I've been trying to nail down the cause but cannot, but the software does keep repeatedly crashing.

I made a few changes to the site configuration today... hopefully it should make things run faster, so far so good, it is.
However... please be on the lookout for any weird errors and report them to me, I'm not so worried about the forum, but anywhere on the main site.

Look into server caches and logs, Admin.

Thanks, but yes, this isn't a new site that I haven't been managing the last 10 years.
The entire main site is built off a cache, and much of the forum system is cached as well. And yes, everything is logged.
But logs don't always tell the full story.

Thank you for the changes, Chris. I'll be on the lookout. Anyways, everything seems to be going faster on my side. I hope it remains like this

I use Safari and it actually shows the status:
can't connect to server...
or server is busy
hope that narrows it down

Of course!
Why not upgrade to the latest vB release? That alone can fix many issues. Excuse my curiosity if I sound inquisitive.

I've been getting it for the past few days too.

I also had the same problems recently. It seemed to be sluggish and then yesterday it was hit or miss if I could even get on LN. I often got the same sort of messages as you did Haunted but I am using Internet Explorer. The site is much faster today.
Thank, Admin, for addressing the problems so swiftly. I hope it keeps running smoothly for you sake and ours as well. I imagine when it doesn't it can be a headache. Hey, maybe the new emoticons are sabotaging LN!

Hope you're right, Janine. For a moment I thought I was cursed.

hahah, yeah really....I told someone yesterday if the site wasn't working soon, some of the members would go into serious withdrawal.

The one where they just had to release a maintence upgrade to fix 250 bugs?
There are some customizations that this site uses that I need to wait for VB 4 to be stable and secure with the customizations supported before I make the upgrade.
Also, just because it is new, doesn't mean it'll be faster. (see vista).

I'm not having any more problems so far.
Did you call Orkin?
I had to go to Wikipedia to understand what Orkin is and how it fits the situation :p
