How does PnP develop the theme of the signifigance of first impressions??

Hey all, this is my first literature class and I'm totally lost at how to get this started (I did read the book)

By "development of a theme" means various devices of plot, characterization, setting and language.

Suggestions would be appreciated...

Just so you can make a start:

1. How do people meet and what are they allowed to do when they know one another?

2. How do people find stuff out about one another?

3. Is it easy for one to fool the rest? How?

4. How do characters deal with their impressions?

5. Ho important are those impressions in view of point 1?
