You can make napalm by mixing diesel with styrofoam.
Flounder and other "flat fish" are born with their eyes like normal fish, one on each side. As they get older the eye shifts sides and they are able to lie flat on the sand.
Moths and other insects are "attracted" to lights, because they think that it is the moon which they use to guide their flight in the dark.

Something tells me I will spend a bit of time in this thread when I am bored. I am a walking encyclopedia. My friends are constantly barraged with the useless and random things I know.

Haha, well exposure to Mycobacterium leprae causes leprosy. I'm not sure where this tidbit came from, but I can assure you it's not true lol.
Leprosy is an infectious bacterial disease.
Ah, hum, a fairly useless fact off the top of my head.
The largest bacterium in the world is Thiomargarita namibiensis (also known as the sulfur pearl of namibia). A single cell is visible to the naked eye and is slightly smaller than a period at the end of a sentence.
The second largest is Epulopiscium fishelsoni. Its name (epulopiscium means guest at a fish banquet) is derived from the fact that the genera was found within the stomach of a sturgeon. Oddly enough, Fishelson was the name of the scientist who discovered it. They're also visible to the naked eye, but everyone thought they were protist until the 80s when genetic analysis proved they were actually incredibly large bacteria.

Everyone knows that if a starfish loses it's arm, it will grow a new one. BUT did you know that if that arm has a ganglion attached, it will grow itself an entirely new starfish?
A sea cucumber's only mode of defense against preditors is to shred it's own innards (everything that isn't absolutley necessairy, including the digestive system) and shoot the whole mess out it's anus. This is suppost to distract the attacker.
Contrary to popular belief, Lizzie Borden wasn't actually a child when she supposedly murdered her parents. She was actually 32 years old.

Women have fewer nerve endings (to recieve pain) than men.Is this a scientific fact? Or based on a survey some chicken-hearted men claiming to be in pain everytime they are a little hurt because... Well, because they are such chickens?

Nah, that's truefax... based on some VERY inhumane Nazi experiments done in the 1940's. Both men and women (Jews obviously) were administered some form of "pain" (electric shocks, burns, superficial cuts) and the women could withstand far more before they passed out. Many slightly less experiments were repeated in the U.S.A and had the same results.
We evolved to have less nerve endings, because it's a disadvantage if we pass out during childbirth and also because we still have to do stuff while we're menstruating (which really ought to be far more debilitating than it actually is... there's a relatively thick layer of veined flesh being ripped from the inside of our body, and most of us just go to work anyway and shrug it off). Mother nature formed us so that we‘d be able to take pain, but not dish it out.
Like almost every single controversial study, this one has been challenged A LOT (hey, if they can argue that evolution is make-believe, they can argue against anything). This debate is obviously still going on because many men see the fact that they can't withstand as much pain as women as a form of "weakness," but I haven't had a bio or psych prof yet that has argued against it and while most of my textbooks aknowledge that while there is a debate (mostly based on the personal opinions of the opposition), the majority of the scientific community primarily supports the theory that women have evolved to withstand pain better than men.

They also found that some men can actually develop PTSD from watching childbirth, and women can develop it after experiencing a difficult labor and birth. Who knew?:p

Hmmm... let's see... there are a dozen death spots, another dozen paralyzing death spots, and many, many disabling spots on the body. Did you know that we, human beings, are this fragile?

Very interesting. It's been also said that women have better balance than men. Surely that's why so many women are natural dancers, while so many men often face severe difficulties to develop a graceful pose of their own :p

I didn't. Few chances to become a dad in the short term, I'm afraid, but thanks for the warning :p

I am wondering, how can we know what moths and other insects think?
Here is something I find interesting: Monogamy
Of the roughly 5,000 species of mammals, only 3 to 5 percent are known to form lifelong pair bonds. This select group includes beavers, otters, wolves, some bats and foxes and a few hoofed animals.

Naked mole rats sometimes form life long bonds, except it's not in pairs. They're one of two species of mole rats that have eusocial colony social structures. The queen mole rat has 2-4 male mating partners that she mates with and she is the only female in the colony allowed to breed. Usually she'll keep a mate for a couple years before eventually switching to new ones. When she dies the females will fight over who gets to be the next queen.
Edit: They're also incredibly resistant to pain, which is suspected to be an adaptation to the acidic soil and high levels of carbon dioxide in their colonies. Scientist actually tested burning them with acid to determine this, they were much more resistant than humans.

Hmmmmmmm.... oh, I remember something cool: if you put a bit of food in a jar with a screw-on lid and toss it into a tank with an octopus, it'll figure out how to open that jar to get at the food. They can solve puzzles and learn by watching other octopus preform tasks.
