mm, darlin', you don't know
what I got brewin' for you
under these wool stockings
and my cowboy boots
fire up your firebird and meet me down the lane
I'll be wearin the candy apple peacoat and some
mittens just the same
we'll spend the night in cotton sheets
their count, it don't matter
whether they're egyptian or pima, baby,
because you, you're the finest
cuban cut cigar, the finest dark cacao truffle, the finest
thorn-free genetically modified red rose
that Lord knows I could afford
I'm not bein' shallow, babe, but one night with you just ain't the same
without little ole me
in some Valentine's lingerie

Now where the heck's the emoticon showing one snappy poet in her elegant Valentine's day lingerie??

What fun there is in this poem. Might one ask if you actually shared it with Mom?

How appealing, promising these first lines are!!! I hope this babe-red-rose-genetically-modified! - what an image! - is meeting you right now down the lane...
I love this, but is there something you write and I do not love! I love them all from 399 down to the number 1 (I assume at least, based on what I am offered to read!) - Love Bar

I love this poem. You write about very endearing everyday characters that are charming and I just feel uplifted after reading this.

Is this another song lyric you found or is this your verse style?

Thanks.

This piece made me smile from the first line to the last. It has such a warm, humorous, and inviting tone that really captures the fun of romance and having someone you love and are attracted to on every level. I'm constantly amazed at your (as well as Prince's) ability to so subtly use poetic devices like delayed rhymes, aliteration, assonance, etc. It's so subtle that when I encounter it I always have to backtrack and see where it came from (like "lane" and "same"). Just great, paper; as usual. :)

Though it is somewhat different in content the tone of this reminds me so much of Melissa Etheridge's You Can Sleep While I Drive. If I may:

Finally! A poem that actually has some life in it! We can actually hear the good, strong "voice" in this poem. The reader never doubts that the speaker is a living, breathing, and (add another participle) woman.

Thank you, b|v, Morpheus, hack, ff, and AuntShecky! Your comments are much appreciated, and ff, I have never heard that song before, but it is an honor to share the deep, strong tone that Etheridge's song carries...I've always looked at my poems in this style kind of similar to lazy, sensual piano bar tunes, or songs that you hear while you're playing pool, shootin' straight Jack at the Hometown watering hole ^_^

Sorry I'm sooooo late to this party but, I love it and yes - it's just like listening to tunes while you're shooting pool and Jack at the local watering hole! I'm going to PM you something.
