I've watched this show on PBS off and on with my son for the past year or so. Every time I watch it, I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it. While I like how it encourages children to read in a friendly setting, it simplifies and idealizes the stories discussed to the extreme, and at the end of each show the main character, says something like "I, Super Why, with the power to read can change the story and save the day!!"
So, here's my questions:
How much should tv shows and movies based on fairy tales and mythology be simplified and idealized for children?
Should children be encouraged to "change the story?" Sure, it is good for a child's creativity, but she they grow up so assured of a story's fluidity?
