Hope floats, in rivers of lies
To the tune of the sirens
With their songs of demise
As the stench of broke hearts
Fill the air with dark dread
Come dance lonesome lovers
Come dance with the dead

This sounds both passionate and morbid and makes me think of a certain goth child I know who likes the night

I love the form and very classical style. I don't think many fewer things have ever been written or spoken than "hope floats on a river of lies"; the sad thing being that most would prefer lies that give hope than the truth that kills it.

Wondering if this deserves a few more readers and comments?

I very much like the terse authority of it.

The Sirens sing to please themselves.
The boats that break and drift ashore
do not float souls they care to know,
but more the ones that seek them out
have pain that they can never show.
