of some of His most popular models
because of inefficient brakes,
sticky accelerator pedals
and faulty emission controls,
which have resulted in global-swarming
and a meltdown of universal civility.
Replacements, as ever, are on their way.

I love the fact that the extended metaphor has both the quality of clarity, a certain obviousness and yet an ambiguity as to precisely what they prefer to. As always I'm a bit conflicted on the prose/conversational nature of the piece but I do believe there are few poets around here that can use metaphor as effectively as you, Prince. Another nice one.

I like it! I needs two reads... at first I thought I was reading "Toyota issues a recall", but then I realized the global-swarming was intentional, and enlightenment followed.
"Replacements are on the way." = priceless

Sour and effective, Prince, as if a dry announcement, but only as if an announcement. The last sentence, as I read it, is poignant. And the whole - arguable.

Thanks, Virgil, Morph and Bar, and especially to you Katy for noting swarming which I was afraid would get lost as readers automatically assumed that "global-" must be followed by warming.
But may I point out that you overlooked the essential "as ever" that preceded "are on the way..."

"Replacements, as ever, are on their way" is a terrific line--it wrapped up the brilliance of the poem and scared the s*** out of the reader--have you ever seen the movie Legion? the last line reminds me of the premise of that movie.
love it!

So glad you appreciated that "as ever." No, I haven't seen "Legion" but will add it to my list. Loooove you!

This is good news, my friend. I like this poem.
If I go back to my firefangled dealership, can I get parts from, say, when I was 24? My brakes are fine, too fine perhaps. My accelerator needs to be completely replaced. My warning lights have been bad for a long time apparently; I've missed some valuable maintenance. My mats are getting a little thin in the nap also.
While at the dealership it would be nice to have an after-market GPS system mounted to my dash. It would be nice to not get lost on the last leg of my journey.

Not quite so good news as you may have hoped, my friend. You paid less attention than you might to the equivocal "as ever". PLEASE continue to use your vehicle as sagely as you have always done.

Thank you for catching the "sourness" in this and the intended poignance of the last line. As to the "arguableness," of course! I am not, not do I aspire to be, the Pope!
