So I've had this project going for the last year; I've been trying to think of which celebrities would best portray each of the Greek gods. I've been having a bit of trouble, especially with Hermes, Hephaestus, Poseidon, Hera, Athena, Ares and Demeter. Here's what I have so far:

Apollo

Brad Pitt, obviously.

Hestia

The wonderful Nigella.

Dionysus

Who else but Jim Morrison?

Aphrodite

The most beautiful woman in the world, Stacey Hayes.

Zeus

Had some trouble with this one, but I'm thinking Paul Newman would be a good fit.

Artemis

How about Maggie O'Connal?

Hades

Cillian Murphy is just creepy enough.

And now I'm stuck. How about it litnet? Let's hear your input. What do you think of my selections so far, and could you help me out with the rest?

Interesting thought...

How about the rather energetic John Simm for Hermes?

For Athena, I think Imogen Stubbs could pull off wisdom, beauty and battle:

Whenever I think of Hera, Baroness Greenfield leaps to mind, though that may be more to do with force of personality:

Some more might come to me in time...

Cillian Murphy IS creepy enough to be the god of the underworld.

How about Sean connery for Zeus instead of Newman?

I was thinking that Connery might make a good Posiedon, actually. What do you think?

That's true, but I picture Zeus as kind of a jackass. He gets tricked a lot, and he's often wrong and childish. Not that Newman is a jackass, but I think that he could pull it off better than Connery. Now Poseiden, he's noble. Very Connery.

I'm having the most trouble with Hephaestus. There just aren't that many crippled blacksmith types around.

Sounds like Disneys Zeus to me! :p I love disneys Zeus.
No you see, with Poseiden, i've always imagined him having a temper and a poker stuck somewhere... you know. :p

For Hephaestus I suggest some kind of a computer person, makers of beautiful and useful things (which leaves Bill Gates out, I guess). Face it, hackers and programmers nowadays are one of the most logical equivalents for blacksmiths.

How about Richard Stallman? Not crippled though, so there might be a more suitable option

Strange you should mention Valhalla, Niamh - I've been thinking I'd cast John Simm as Loki rather than Hermes: he does malicious pranksters rather well.

Demeter. In the avatar of Charlie Dimmock. We Brits have been initiated in her mysteries since the Nineties.:thumbs_up
