Today, the 26th of January is Australia Day.
Australia Day is a celebration of the day when European settlers first came to live in Australia.
On this very date in 1788, Captain Arthur Phillip arrived and docked in Sydney Cove on his ship, The Endeavour.
With him was a fleet of 11 convict ships from England. Some other free settlers came as well. This was known as the First Fleet.
It is also a celebration of the pride Australia has in their country and the progress that they've made over the past 222 years.
It is a day to say thank you for the things that we've created, or as so the most recent commercial says:

Today is a day where Aussies show their national pride and traditionally have BBQs, play cricket and have a good excuse for a holiday.
