in middle school, a required reading was one that was intended to display irony. i dont have many memories from that time period but of the few i do have, this one stands out. i have no clue who wrote this or what its title is... A boy and friends somehow are capsized near a european coast and survival is bleak. The friends eventually parish to the sea, and it seams the boy soon to follow. When the boys time inevitably comes, he somehow finds a prominent rock which he stands on and rides out the night until someone can rescue him. here comes the irony. the area is know for either giant squid or maybe octopuses which ironically kill the boy before rescue. if anyone can help me with how i can find this short story, i would really appreciate it!!!!
