twofaced profiles in
funeral silence,
hypnotized behind gray
screen focused eyes,
candy crackle or cough
can't distract idle lives;
introducing a character
who shirks, slacks, and cheats
his kids, job, and wife,
the fans in his life...
now here, children jeer
ladies scream
men inflame;
this expensive seat
will not let me sink!
my gaffes, there spotlighted
in size exponential,
i'm stuck to the floor...
foreseeing forced exit...
no stage left to curtain
hypocrisy

This came across to me as a brilliant silhouette but I couldn't see what was beyond the screen, couldn't guess at the prose of the situation.

the theater audience sees, and reacts to, one of their lives on screen.

I think this is reflection of what goes on and on dramatically in life as the reader is an onlooker of his own stage!!!

yes, blaze, i enjoyed thinking about the internal struggle we face as our own critics, and our shame reaction. i also enjoyed making theater allusions. thank everyone for reading and commenting!

I was vividly reminded of Fellini's 8 1/2; a film about a film-maker struggling to make a film and inevitably ends up acting out a film about his own life where he becomes the subject that everyone judges and he's forced to face his own hang-ups about his life. It's a brilliant film (one of cinema's greatest masterpieces) if you haven't seen it.

And I was reminded of my own inner struggles, dilemmas, contradictions while writing and taking the risk (willingly) to be "on stage" at the mercy of exacting audience of which I myself am a part - you included it all in your sharp short lines; powerful. Thank you.
