I read the Picador edition translated and with an introduction by Natasha Wimmer and I remember two "jokes" that were pretty dark and depressing. One is about Galicians (page 474). The other is about a man who is being held in a jail and then they take him far out into a cold desert (I think) and right before he is about to be executed by his two captors he starts laughing. The men say something along the lines of "You know you are about to die, what could you possibly be laughing about?" The prisoner responds that he will be done there, but they have to walk all the way back in the cold. I cannot locate it again in the text, does anyone know where in the book it is? A page number would be awesome. Thanks.
