“Misfortunate Child”
By
Ali Makki

Brimming branches bristling with thorns of mystery,
On ward, on ward, on ward, swiftly swim in the black sea
Of crumbling statues, of uncovered old tales that reside,
Oh! Truth be told, survived only one little, misfortunate child.

... it casts a chill over me, and I wish I could give this child a sure shelter as it hugs his knees to his chest somewhere in the thorny mystery... a moment of deep, sad emotion, thank you for sharing...

What I like in this poem, in fact, is the setting which imposes great ambiguity. The black sea and the crumbling statues fit the themes of loneliness and mystery very well I suppose...
