A man
Alone
Stands on a corner
A dog
A-stray
Wanders across the street
For a moment
Only a moment
Their lives pause
And the traffic with them
And for a moment
Only a moment
They look at each other
And for a moment
Only a moment
They understand everything
About each other
But only
For a moment

Masterful! Sorry I got to it so late. Your command of pace in this is breathtaking, and that intentionally anti-climactic climax is heart-breaking.

This is actually a very tender piece on lonliness, Morpheus. As I read I was almost thinking the repetition was too much, until it was resolved in the last two lines. Very well done.

Well, I just love it... Loneliness is a very sad thing. And I felt it here. Thanks Morhpeus.

I wish I could hear you read this @ a poetry slam. That would be truly a pleasure, because the form of this poem is so unique, that merely reading it silently doesn't do it justice.

A sincere thanks to all for the lovely and encouraging comments.

@Prince: I don't know of you can tell, but I've been rather influenced by your own poetry lately; trying to learn how to say more with less.

@Paper: I've never been to a poetry slam but it's something I'd be interested in checking out.

You said loads with so little, and in your own warm atmosphere, in spite of the subject's nature, or because of it. A beautiful poem..

As I have read this "only in a moment" I got a strange feeling that something is going on. Say, the dogs are famous for being faithful, while humankinds, on the other hand, are famous for being cruel to each others. Well, unfortuantely! So, faithfulness and crultey are things that can be resolved if we, humankinds, for only a moment, really just try to understand them. In other word, to understand each others and throw all of our contentions away..

Sounds utopian, aren't I?

Anway, nice little poem there...Cheers mate.

Ali Makki aka Amylian

In which case, the supreme challenge to each of us will be to say everything with nothing...

@Amylian: I think you hit on what I was trying to express. Something about maybe a moment of understanding is all we can ever manage and yet if it can happen between species (hypothetically) then surely we should be able to understand each other (being the same species) for a bit longer.

Thanks to Sophia, ur shadow, Pensive, and to Prince for the followup. :)
