Hi, I just joined mainly for help in finding and giving credit to author of poem my great grandmother included in group of poems she recited in 1956. The title of this religious poem and the first line is "There was once a beautiful garden". It is 15 stanza's long and tells of children invited to a party at the garden on the hill by the Lord of the Manor but must wear white clothes. On the way to the party their clothes get soiled. A kind person offers the children new white clothes. Some accept but others feel they can cover the spots and don't need the new clothes. At the entrance of the garden the children with new clothes are welcomed in while the ones with spots are discovered and turned away.
The last stanza reads:
I’ve heard of a glorious city,
Such wonder has ne’er have been told,
Tis witten that naught tho defileth,
Can enter it’s street of pure gold,
But Jesus stands waiting to give you,
A garment both spotless and fair,
Dear children come now to that Savior,
And then you will dwell with him there.

I'd appreciate any help I could get to identify this author.

Hi - I joined this because there is a short story I am looking for -
The quote I can remember is, "boys can't be bothered with morals, especially at Christmas." The story is probably set in Victorian England and is about a bishop giving a party for his choirboys. It was probably published in a book of Christmas stories - an anthology. There is some killjoy female character who wants to give the boys gifts that will improve their morals, but the bishop insists on real boy type gifts - jacks and that sort of thing. Can anyone help me or direct me where eslse on this site to post my request.
