Happy Birthday! :)
[An interview with Maryd:
B]Why are we doing this interview thing?[/B]
Because you asked me to.
Are you sure you want to do this?
Yes, no, yes, no… Alright-already yes.
Got milk?
Yes, actually this question really relates to me as I am very pedantic with milk. It has to be fresh, or straight down the sink it goes.
Who stole the cookie from the cookie jar?
Alright, I admit, IT WAS ME!
If you had a personal theme song what would it be?
How did I get caught up in this mess!
Are you male or female?
The last time I looked I was female.
What makes you keep coming back?
There are some really great reads. Oh! So hooked on the games… And of course some special people, that are not only understanding but filled with wisdom as well.
Are you happy with the way things are here?
Yes. Quite so. Don’t change Litnet and Litnetters.
Which countries have you visited?
Sadly I cannot say I have visited any. But my lifelong dream, would be to go to France. Maybe one day.
How do you like your home town?
Yes, can’t complain. Life is changing though… Or maybe I am just getting older.
If you could live somewhere different, where would it be and why?
Ar er, France. Remember the dream?
Do you have any pets?
Yes, most of my litnetter friends would know by now that my special pet is my avatar. Honey. She’s our 3 year old King Charles Cavalier. We also have a 16 year old Tabby cat named Tequila, (which the kids and I, like to call my husband’s lover – we are so naughty) one budgerigar named Milk and a bird eating spider named Stanley. Well he is my son’s pet. I actually have 2 friends I would like to introduce him to, one is called ‘Insect Spray’ and the other is called ‘The Broom’.
What makes you happy?
My children.
What is mankind's biggest achievement, and its greatest downfall?
This may sound very contradicting, but in my opinion, I feel it is the internet. Oddly enough.
Do you feel comfortable in your walk with God/atheism?
I was going to leave this question blank… Every time I talk about religion or politics I get all fired up. So all I have say is, I am definitely happy with my faith and walk with God.
Which actor should play you in a movie based on your life?
Meryl Streep.
Given the option, what animal would you choose to be?
Cows, they have always been my fav animal and I often wondered what they are thinking of, when they just stand and stare – at nothing.
What were your favorite things to do the past? What about now?
Ballroom dancing and writing. I still love both of them with a passion, but nowadays I only write, even though there are times the kids and I get together and prance around the lounge room, to one of my many eighties cd’s.
What makes you feel great about yourself?
Between mid 2008 and mid 2009, I lost 16 kilos of weight, with a diet and workout regime I made up to suit my body, not some ex-trainer and his/her experience.
How did you meet your significant other?
Through work. 18 years later he still works there.
Who inspires you most?
Nelson Mandella.
What are you naturally good at? (Skills, abilities, gifts etc.)
I am not usually pessimistic but I don’t feel I have any great skills or abilities that I wish to share. I do however possess the gift of love. I dislike the word ‘hate’ even though I have used it, in many of my posts. I also have the gift of patience for the young and their troubles. I believe any child deserves a future and to be loved, regardless of their circumstance.
What is the one thing you must do before you die?
To have at least published the novel, I completed this year.
If you had to teach something, what would you teach?
Love, because it has the power to make you feel good and yet challenged at the same time.
What would you regret not fully doing, being or having in your life?
Nothing too drastic, however I have always wanted to complete my ballroom dancing levels and reach the gold steps. And of course I would most definitely regret never being, a published writer. (But there’s still time)
Do you feel the divine spark of life within you or do you consider yourself a mechanical thing?
Not entirely sure if I understand this question as well as I feel I should. However, I am an excited person. Give me anything or anyone and I will give 100% of my effort or time, so long as it is exciting. I cannot handle people who look for blame and so if something has gone wrong in my life, I try my hardest to fix the problem without giving up.
What method do you cherish above all others, as means to improving your life?
Willpower, one must always recognise inner strength.
What is your role in an emergency situation: the 911 dialer, the person who runs to the scene to help, the video recorder, or the person too overcome by shock to do anything?
I work very well in emergency situations. I don’t know why, but I do. Mind you directly after the emergency has been sorted out I start to tremble and need to sit down and breathe it out, but during, I am all hands on.
What one thing would you NEED to have on a deserted island if you didn't have to worry over food and water?
I have never been afraid of being alone. However if I had to chose something, I think it would be a person, not an object. My soul mate.
What song is in your head at the moment?
I Want To Break Free by Queen.
Which book are you reading at the moment?
I have been conned into reading Wuthering Heights by my daughter. It’s not usually my genre of read - however I can be versatile… It better be good, girl.
The last book you finished reading?
A true story, ‘He’s my Daughter.’ By Lynda Langley (Don’t ask!)
What is your favourite quote?
The person, who knows how to laugh at himself, will never cease to be amused. By Shirley Maclaine
Favorite food?/ Comfort food?
I like lasagne, sorry, that’s the Italian in me speaking. But I can live without comfort food if I had to. Although I cannot and will not, live without wine or coffee.
What time of day do you most often find yourself on the LitNet?
I don’t get on much, just during eating and breathing. Hahahaha.
What are you wearing at the moment?
I didn’t know I was supposed to wear clothes for this interview… No, no, just kidding. It is plenty hot down under at the moment, so wearing a green and white striped T-shirt, Tracksuit shorts, white slip on sandals and of course the unmentionables.
Favorite poem?
The Man from Snowy River by Banjo Paterson.
First novel you remember reading on your own?
A true story, Champion Dog – Prince Tom by Jean Fritz and Tom Clute.
What era do you find most of the books you read are from?
Actually I don’t have a fav era, just give me something exciting or fun to read. It must be a page turner.
Favorite TV shows?
Yuk! Despise the idiot box.
Which LitNet members would you like to meet in person if you could?
You just had to ask this one. Golly, where do I start. The list is endless. But I will narrow it down to almost everyone. The very wise Virgil, Haunted, (Or should I say Thelma) Rimbaud, Daniel Benoit, The very funny BienvenuJDC and TheComedian, Eyemaker, Neilgee, Skib, American Eagle, Sound of Music and of course everyone else on my friends list. I sound like I am receiving a Grammy…
Last words you said out loud?
I am going to get myself into trouble with this interview.
Last person you hugged/kissed?
My daughter.
What do you do (for a living) to be able to keep your LitNet addiction going? And are you happy with your chosen profession?
Am I allowed to say the ‘B’ word? I am a bum at the moment. I am supposed to be an editor. But business has come to a halt. Mind you, it hasn’t been a complete waste, as I have spent the last year completing my novel and getting familiar with the litnet community.
What question would you like to ask yourself?
How did you end up in this mess?
What would you like to be if you could change your profession?
A full time writer.
What is your most outstanding feature?
I have been told by many, it’s my smile. I think I will have to agree.
If you could change one thing about the way you look, what would that be?
If we are only talking about looks I would have to say I have always hated my nose, so Rhinoplasty, would have to be the go.
Which book do you wish you had written?
Are you kidding? Mine.
Oh, you meant a published book, ‘Great Expectations’ by Charles Dickens. What an amazing man?
What should you be doing at the moment instead of answering these questions?
Cleaning house.
If you could only rescue one item from your burning house, what would it be, and why?
Apart from my pets, I would have to say the computer of course. It has all our family photos and info and since it is the only one we own right now how would I cope without my addiction to litnet, if it went up in smoke?
Wonderful Superman or depressing Batman?
Superman all the way. Christopher Reeve, what a dream. RIP dear.
Anything that you want to forget but you never can?
Yes between the ages of 2-9, I had an unusual experience, which often comes back to haunt me… After this year’s shemozzle, I would like to wipe it out of my life completely.
Tell us about some amusing translation mistake you have heard or made yourself.
My girl is going to hate me for this one. One day we went out for dinner at a family bistro. My daughter was very young and we never discussed relationships with her, only that she had a mum and dad. So she was unfamiliar with divorce. Anyway we bump into another girl of her age. They played on the jungle gym provided by the venue whilst we chatted with the girl’s parents, discussing how easily children make friends. After their play the children returned and sat at the end of the table. But we could just make out their conversation. The girl told my daughter that she was here with her father and his girlfriend. My daughter’s response was… Oh dear, does your mother know?
Are you mostly happy with life or are you still in pursuit?
I guess I am almost happy. To be completely happy, I would like to be able to tell my story. But the world needs to be a little more open minded before I can even consider it. So looks like I will just have to wait a few more centuries.
What type of Faerie would you like to be and why?
One that tells jokes.
What makes you laugh?
I have this secret insensitivity (which is now, no longer secret) for drunken people. And during my twenties I spent most of the time laughing at friends and family that over intoxicated themselves and did or said something stupid. It almost became a fetish. Now I spend most of my time laughing at myself… At least I will never cease to be amused.
What part of “Final” don’t you understand?
The End!
One final word of wisdom for LitNet users?
Do not hurt your fellow man, believe it or not he bleeds red blood and he cries salty tears too.

What a great interview Mary. This was some answer:
If you had to teach something, what would you teach?
Love, because it has the power to make you feel good and yet challenged at the same time.
That is one of the great answers I have ever heard and says so much about you. You deserve a kiss for that. :ladysman: And thank you for mentioning me. :) Shall we dance? :p

Wonderful interview Mary. You have a good sense of humor and your interview as filled with a lot of wit, and I think we all know a bit more about you now.
*Mary is now smiling from ear to ear - her best trait!*...
Ah, Virgil, that animation is really cute. I was thinking how Mary is too modest and her talent must lie in dancing. I would trip over my own feet ballroom dancing. Good for you Mary!

Mary, just saw your interview. Didn't see it when I was here before the red carpet...hmmm, hope I made the afterparty :D
AWWWW you have a big smile and an even bigger heart. You're such an inspiration. Love love love your interview, so filled with sagacity and fun. I sure peg you for the perfect person for a pub crawl. Didn't you say somewhere that it only takes 40 minutes to swim from America to Australia? Ohhh, that was your question in the Ask A stupid Question, Get A Stupid Answer game. Yep, it's true, just 40 minutes and I'm coming. Woot woot. But let me take some beginner swimming lessons first. Hey, even if we weren't that smart in that game, we are cheeky enough for them to make a movie about us ;)

You keep being gorgeous.

I personally benefited a lot from your thoughtful and compassionate posts and empathetic messages. You topped my best people list! And don't think I'm done with this corny monolog, I'll save it after the 40 minute swim over to Australia. Forget about swimming lessons. I'll do that later........ Eh, do I leave from the East Coast or the West Coast? help....!
