Footage of George Orwell whilst at Eton was discovered a while ago. The film was shot in 1921 and Orwell is marching across the grounds of the private school with a group of fellow students. I know that one of the boys is him as it was shown on C4 news many years ago but I am unable to identify which one. Can you? http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=18384

You can't really see their faces very well. I've no idea.

Impossible to tell, but I'd venture that he's one of the two in the middle of the linked-arms group as they're the tallest and he was very tall.

ITV manages the archive, but there's nothing on their site.

I have e mailed them and will let you know if I find out more.

How odd that we should be working out which one he is! It'll get worked out. I have recently begun reading letters and essays of Orwell. Marvelous pithy stuff. His sympathy
for the impoverished must have originated in some very moving experience for him. There is a sense of honesty and sincerity

Does anyone know what became of the film footage of Orwell in Southwold in 1939 discovered by DJ Taylor? I'd love to see it but can't find it anywhere!
