Wow, Jer, I feel your empathy for her... It is a true story, right? But don't claim it just being New Orleans, that sort of thing is happening everywhere. I walk through the city of Melbourne a couple of times a year. (I don't like travelling into the city - huge fear of large crowds) And there are many people like that. How can one arrive to that point in life is beyond me? A lot of people say, "it's bad upbringing." But I don't know about that. I had the strangest upbringing (will tell you about it one day) and I could have ended up like that woman. But I chose... You see it's all about choices. I chose not to. I wouldn't let anyone categorise me like that. Great story dear.

This was great. It was thought provoking. The human condition speculated upon, without judgement. You leave that up to the reader. That's as it should be. Thanks.

Liked your story, tnx for writing it.
I have done retail, have worked at gas stations and thrifty stores, some parts of California are no better.

I am glad you liked my story.
I too have lived in California-- in three different places in three different times. And I agree: in some places it's even worse than New Orleans.
