Still Life
or Insomnia I

Centrally: irksome opulence of the asleep;
next to them: a cluster of lost night hours
stiff hindlegs pointing up, say to the stars;
strings of days slumped in deep dejection,
scattered by;
behind and above: painting of Saint George
flooring the maid, letting dragon free,
wall watch on the right, a little lower.
My latest canvas.

As Prince did, I read this one and Insomnia II in sequence. I printed them out on the same page to see them close together. Did you intend Insomnia I to be continued or sequenced by Insomnia II. It did not seem that way to me.

Insomnia I was an interesting b/c it forced me to visualize its elements represented on a canvas. The last line made me go back and read it with that in mind. This is something that paintings and particularly sculptures often do, once we have taken their elements in.
The images took on a different perspective when I did. I loved the cluster of lost hours presented like grapes or a bowl of apples.

Thank you so much for your comments and for the time you devoted to Insomnia I and II, I appreciate. They are separate entities, as you have guessed, this first was meant to feel more static, like some nights do when one cannot fall asleep. I was somewhat influenced by van Gogh's "Still Life with Apples, Meat and a Roll", have you ever seen this painting? in my eyes rather crude, cold and somber... The second Insomnia was more emotional and yes, pondered the worth of a struggle for continuation as confronted with the evidence of death... but I would not venture an answer, goes without saying. Thanks again, Fire.
