I didn't pout, nor did I cry.
Santa took note and left me:

- "The Complete Poetical Works of Oliver Goldsmith" (now I don't have to add further wear to my grandfather's copy)

- One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich" by Alexander Solzhenitsyn

- "Under Western Eyes" by Joseph Conrad

With the present size of my library I don't tend to add to many books (outside of art books) unless the book is something that has long been on my "wish list", is an amazing bargain (or I can convince myself of the same) or it is something likely to go out of print rapidly. I only picked up 5 books over the holidays: a volume of the poems of the Japanese poet Ryokan, a new translation from the Greek Anthology (some rather bawdy stuff there), an anthology of Chinese poetry in translation (Poems of the Masters), a volume of Racine's plays translated by John Cairncross (we'll see if your right about him, mortal), and most importantly a great volume on the "artists' books" of the 20th century with some great works by Picasso, Miro, and others. I got several gift cards to Borders, Barnes and Noble, and Half Price Books which I have yet to spend... but seriously, I have been building my musical library at a far more rapid rate recently... so much so I needed to build a second 6' shelf to store them all.

Just before Christmas I received a copy of Gordon Ramsey's World Kitchen: it came in a plain brown envelope, no delivery note or greeting card and none of my friends will admit to sending it to me. They all say they would not dream of inflicting Gordon Ramsey on me - I don't dislike the man, I can do without the 'language' but he does not suffer fools gladly, for which I have a degree of sympathy because they seem to find some right dozy nitwits for him to work with, and he is no mean chef. The only thing I can think of is that I sent gift subscriptions for a magazine to a couple of friends and I think maybe that was the book that was being offered as a freebie for ordinary subscriptions/renewals at the time and I maybe typed in the reference code when I placed the order, so it's a thank you from the publishers.

Otherwise I had no actual books but I have vouchers to buy audio books that I can use to download items to take with me on my i-pod when I set off on my travels - I can't read on coaches but enjoy listening to a story as I travel, especially when it's too dark to see out of the window.

I received (from my parents):

Daniel Quinn's Beyond Civilization and Watchmen and Philosophy, from the Popular Culture and Philosophy series.

...along with Kurt Vonnegut's Welcome to the Monkey House as a CD audiobook from my girlfriend's parents. I'm still debating what exactly I should spend my Christmas money on, if I spend it at all. I'll probably just save my money, and stick to reading free classics off of the Internet.

Not a book but I got a Sony Ereader with a case that provides reading light :D And the superb thing is that my local library started to offer ebook loans as of January 1st.

Also book vouchers worth over £100. No idea what to buy yet as I rarely buy books.
