Sweltering day of avarice
scorching heat where gluttony and greed
give smatterings of platters
to incite base needs

Relishments of rare delight
Spoonfuls of cheer travelling south
betwixt slurping, burping
antics - the slurred loose mouth

Swelled tummies grow heaving hearts
a banquet of gorge, gouge and stuff
pour forth from foaming brethren souls
all manner of sweetmeats and fluff

Giddy cavorting snorting the fare
bloated feelings when full to the brim
passionate aromas of memories recalled
dabbed delicately away by the sodden chins

Festive helpings may quench and sate
that which be filled by kin
grapple for yet another plate
Yuletide indulgence peppered with sin

Delta, You paint the hedonistic "gross" side of merry making quite descriptively. We sometimes can use Xmas as an excuse to become slothful, glutinous heathens.

The last verse is scathing!

Now I feel guilty for what I did upon x-mass lunch hehe. I enjoyed the poem, always enjoy poems on the seven sins.

This is certainly a biting invective against the famous Deadly Sin of greed; that last line is especially venomous in its unexpectedness. At least that's one particular sin I didn't commit this holiday since I was snowed in!

It did stir a little guilt for holidays past. Fortunately or not, I am no longer able to feed the beast in me in the way he became accustomed to being fed in my younger days. Age has a few advantages, although most of them are hardly worth mentioning. Delta, you did inspire my latest posting with your indictment of my youth.
