A shooting star fell from the sky
It hit the ground and broke in two
Someone whispered in my ear
That they thought that it was you

The hunchback in the ivory tower,
The angelic gargoyle hanging from a string
I guess that is all you can ever be
I guess it’s the toiling of the bells
That we take for what the angels sing

I stepped upon a river of ice
I slipped down the chain
I felt myself ascend the great depths
I saw the light begin to fade
I journeyed down the waterfall
The water rose to the sky
I landed on a bed of rock
As the sky turned into the sea
In the distance the sky was torn
The lava became one with the sea
Is this where all mankind ends up
When they no longer long to be free

I stood on the edge of a roaring void
The vacuum engulfed me
I gazed down into the pits of nothingness
And the nothingness smiled at me

I drifted through the streets with the snow
I floated on the wind
The icy breeze cut through the shadow
Of where I aught to have been
A lazy wraith flickering out of consciousness
A speck of dust consumed by eternity

A shooting star fell from the sky
It hit the ground and a thousand hearts broke in two
Someone whispered in my ear
That there was nothing else left to do
So I journeyed through the desert
And reached the well of my mind
I drew some water to my lips
That’s what people do from time to time
I left the wisdom of the desert
And took a chemical rush
I felt my self grow nauseous
I kicked the habit cold
It might have done some good in circles
But it never could do any good for me
I am a prisoner of my own intellect
And that is all I wish to be

A shooting star fell from the sky
I thought of all that could be
Someone whispered in my ear
If you wish it then it will be

I'm not sure that you really intend us to take the last two lines literally. I admire the stately procession of your lines and the unforced confessional tone.
