The man who leads our poetry group is also the owner of a beautiful bed and breakfast. Our monthly meeting was held there instead of the library. There were wonderful things to eat and drink and also a wonderful audience to listen to our assignment....a tanka. Here was my offering.
The Poets Gather for Christmas
Our most gracious host
His home, warm and inviting
Plates, tasty-laden
With delicacies to choose
Cookies here, a tanka there
Our senses so pleased
With all the sights, sounds, and smells
Of Christmas, and words
That waft as from a fireplace
Or froth as from an eggnog
Our words mingle too
Those nostalgic revelries
Past, present, future
Delicacies within us
Offered on plates of good will
