Yes. They are largely pointless and necessarily incomplete. But as we round out the first decade of the new millennium, I thought a 'Best of' was probably inevitable.
So, my list (:brow:) of the ten best works of English language fiction published between 2000 and 2009:
1. The Corrections - Jonathan Franzen
2. Cloud Atlas - David Mitchell
3. Tree of Smoke - Denis Johnson
4. The Human Stain - Philip Roth
5. True History of the Kelly Gang - Peter Carey
6. The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay – Michael Chabon
7. The Road – Cormac McCarthy
8. The Lay of the Land – Richard Ford
9. John Henry Days – Colson Whitehead
10. Elizabeth Costello – JM Coetzee
