Here's the game. All of us together start revealing The Giant Conspiracy that has been plotted all through human history by some strange powers. We try to reveal elements from history, science and culture that have been hidden from us. Of course, some of the conspiracists, in their naivety, might be misguided and err but then, others should kindly point out what really happened and what the real reasons are.
Themes near absurdity are encouraged, but let's try to at least pretend that our theories are coherent, supported by logic and the only reason why a multitude of errors appear there is that the Evil Powers That Be have suppressed the theories.
Double identities, secret societies, dabbling with the supernaturals, alien overlords, ancient bloodlines - sky's the limit.
Georg Cantor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georg_Cantor) was obviously a rebel member of secret society of mathematicians whose purpose was to keep technological progress (for which certain mathematical tools were crucial) in check to control society. The secret society, of course, held some other important and secret knowledge too, due to its old age, manipulating the society not only through withholding the mathematics, but with numerous other ways. In fact, the sect probably originates from Pythagoreans, who are even today known for casting to the sea the man who tried to reveal the existence of irrational numbers. The story of the society is a long one and needs more research, so I will maybe speak of it later.
First, in Cantors famous set theory, in it's original, the letters for different types of infinities were not the harmless alephs and omegas, but other Hebrew letters, which betrayed an ancient Kabbalistic spell. In the original manuscript of "Über eine Eigenschaft des Inbegriffes aller reellen algebraischen Zahlen", the letters were correct, revealing something terrifying about the true nature of infinities. However, the head of the local departure of the sect, Dedekind, advised his friend to at least change the letters. Cantor, however, only changed some of the letters, which caused a scandal in the field of mathematics, as the head of the society at that time, Kroenecker tried to suppress the knowledge, even in abridged form.
Secondly, one should remark, it is interesting to note that in his later period, Cantor tried to prove to the public that Bacon had in fact written Shakespeares works (which is of course true) to reveal what the Pythagoreans had hidden, trying once more to blow the cover of the organisation. However, he was too slow, since with clever planning, Cantor was declared to be mentally unfit and shoved away.
Do you see other pieces of the jigsaw?
