Hi
Hoping someone might know the name of this book - I would appreciate some help.
It was about a reporter (possibly called Dennis?) who goes to a bar to do a story on a woman who does a show in which she predicts the sex of a pregnant woman's baby. The woman doing the show (I think her name was Tawny) has a daughter who is the one who really has the special abilities. Tawny is an alcoholic and uses the girl for her own purposes, but is not intelligent enough to realise her potential.
Dennis realises the potential of the little girl who has the ability to start fires, cure people of cancer etc. He does a news report on this and the world goes crazy trying to get to see the girl.
I can't remember exactly what happens - it was years ago that I read it. The only other scene I remember is where Tawny and the others are holed up in a house and she is forcing the girl to magic bottles of whisey and cocaine for her.
Dennis has a connection with the little girl and has visions/dreams where he enters another world (inside the girls head) where she is represented by a fully grown woman.
All sounds very strange but it was an excellent read. The only other thing I remember is that it was a similar relaxed writing style to Stephen King (it wasn't Firestarter!) and that on the cover there was a strange symbol.
Any suggestions appreciated.
thanks.
