"The two artists where painting in different centuries and they..."
Should the 'where' be spelt that way or 'were'?
I'm befuddled by this. :redface:

It is a very common mistake and this is how I explain this to me students:
"W-here" refers to a place and has "here" in it.
Thanks Niamh and Scheherazade, that's a good way to think of it and remember it..

And not to mention you need an "ear" to "h-ear" and who wouldn't like some "ice" in their "ju-ice"?
Oh, be warned! There is "a-rat" in "sep-a-rat-e"!

Thank you for the link, Scher :nod: It made me realize I had forgotten the difference between Jones's and Joneses' :D I know it makes little sense, but it does when you only use English on-line :rolleyes:
