Short Story recomendations

Hi guys,
recently Ive become really interested in short stories in general...however i am lacking in good material at the moment and was wondering if you could recomend some good short stories which you would say are a must.
So far ive read most of Oscar Wildes short stories...All of Roald Dahl...And have just bought 3 books entitled :"Best American short stories (2007)"," Best American short stories (2008)", and finally "50 Great Short Stories" respectively.
Any tips/recomendations will be much apreciated.

It's hard to give suggestions without just steering you to personal favorites. So I'll do just that. D.H Lawrence has done a few, see "The Rockinghorse Winner" Maughham is my favorite though, and had written quite a few, along with O. Henry and Turgenev. The reasons I read only the old masters is because they've passed the ultimate test and have stood the test of time. That's a good indicator of their worth. Best of luck.

Thanks; the whole point of me asking u is to find out ure favorites and thus getting different perspectives. It would be easy for me to just read from my 10 favorite authers and leave it at that but i want more variety.So thanks!

To Room Nineteen by Doris Lessing. I'm mentioned this one before, though I'm not a huge short story fanatic this one just blew me away.

Hemingway, every single one of his stories I have enjoyed and loved deeply. Joyce as well made a collection of little masterpieces in one of the best collections of short stories of the century Dubliners. Kafka, Gogol and Borges are great too.

Anything by these writers are a 'must'.

Anything by Julio Cortazar you can find. The man was an absolute genius.

Also, if you ever fancy something a bit out-there, Ray Bradbury has a host of great short stories that are chilling, to say the least. Sometimes they're reminiscent of the Twilight Zone, but always thought-provoking and written with unspeakably sharp and beautiful imagery.

I skimmed over what had already been posted and found--and I may be mistaken--found that there weren't any recent authors mentioned. So: I would advise checking out any of T.C. Boyle's books of short stories, though the stories in After the Plague were probably my favorite.

MUST READS FOR EVERY FAN OF THE GENRE:
Amy Hempel : "The Harvest" and "Rapture of the Deep" ... just my opinion, but as far as the "craft" of short story writing goes, she is the master. Read anything from her.

Dennis Johnson : "Jesus' Son" ... a collection of autobiographical shorts that run together like a short novel or memoir. All, very good.

Ok thanks for the suggestions...ive already ordered books from most of the authers suggested, also a 600 page book from T.C Boyle which had some really good reviews on amazon. So thanks again.
