How modern?

Are you familiar with The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis. Its a good satirical book featuring devils.

Well that one was 20th century so you're in luck.

I am writing a dissertation anout the evolution of the Devil from the Gothic period to the modern day - I am in desperate need of modern texts with the devil in them - can anyone help?

I haven't heard of that and will check it out - thank you. By modern, I mean any literature since the gothic period really - as I need a wide range - however, I'm most desperate for some 20th century novels.

Thank you - that's a great start...now, if anyone has anymore - I need as many as possible. And books in which the devil is expressed as being more a part of a persons own character would be perfect...

Saramago's The Gospel according to Jesus Christ features Satan as well.

Good Omens by Terry Pratchet and Neil Gaiman.
Satan Burger by Carlton Mellick

You should look at the portrayal of Lucifer in Gaiman's Sandman comics, very inventive.

Confessions of a Justified sinner is an amazing novel where the devil convinces a Calvinist boy to commit sins.

I forget, but I think it's early Gothic.

You know, I have a sneaking suspicion that the OP is done with his dissertation by now, for better or worse. . . .

Still, it made me think of this. \m/___\m/ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTJMtZWx29s)

Haha, yes, hopefully he has finished!

I feel a bit stupid now, not having checked the original post... Oh, well...
