I was expecting change but its not the change I was expecting. I am at a loss as why 30 thousand more of our fighting men and women are being sent in harms way to battle a feudal war that has existed for thousands of years without abandon. Why fight a war that can never be won? Why fight a senseless and endless conflict that will only fuel continued division among our own people? Why fight a war that mirrors and mimics flashbacks to Vietnam? Why fight a war that causes the loss of our own when it should be left to those who war against each other? What has been accomplished? What has been gained? When will it end?

Well most of those people who currently form the government in Kabul and Kandahar would probably end up slaughtered if NATO pulls out, and those people, although not perfect, are the best hope for improving the situation in Afghanistan. Do you really want Afghanistan to return to the Taliban's control? It seems rather irresponsible to leave when we've created the instability as well.

If we leave, I don't think you'd like the outcome very much either.

In some ways, Vietnam was lost in the court of public opinion and from too much micromanagement. If we've learned from that (and I think we have), Afghanistan won't be another Vietnam.

Aren't politics off-limits here?
