The Ups and Downs of Life
We seem to spend all our lives at the elevator—
Trying to go up or go down
But the deus ex machina has ideas of its own
You shoot for the penthouse suite
And find yourself somewhere in the sub-basements
And when you think you’ve hit the very bottom
The lights and music ring from the topmost floor
More often we find ourselves somewhere in between
Just don’t get off on the thirteenth floor…
