As explained throughout the story Oceania and Eastasia have been at war since before Winston's life began. If the spread of Big Brothers power has spead throughout the world,then why are they at war?

Also, when julia and winston are taken to the Ministry of Love, Why is Parsons contradicting what his subconcience mind really feels?

From what I read in "The Book" I think that Eurasia and Eastasia both aren't under Big Brother's rule . They are their own separate nations each with a government similar to that of Oceania's. So all three nations are benefiting from continual war.

They're not at war in the real sense. The war is a sham.

We don't know, but Parsons is stupid which might account for it.

Come on Atheist, Parsons may be stupid, as all neighbours are, but he survives. The point is, Winston who is not stupid, flounders. Surely Orwell is indicating that being an intellectual does not guarantee immunity. If his dystopian novel teaches us one thing, it is do not trust the powers that be. At least he had the good sense to finish his life in Jura, Scotland. :)

Quite right!

In fact, there's an essay somewhere that has Orwell choosing between losing his brain and losing his legs and he opts for losing his legs, because he'd still able to walk to the pub!

Yes, although I always wonder whether a bloke with chronically sick lungs possibly could have found a warmer climate more life-extending.
