A few questions...

What was with the older woman? She made a comment that inston and her had the same name and then jokingly said "I could be your mother." Winston thinks its possible but that is all you hear. It doesn't mention it again. Was there any connection?

Also, I understand that parson is proud that his daughter turned him in because it shows her loyalty to the Party. But how could someone say they are glad to be caught -- even a brainwashed, Party loving man like Parson -- when they know they will be killed by the Party -- who he has worked and supported his whole life?

I think that Winston doesn't really think that the woman is his mother. He thinks that it might be possible but I don't think he really cares all that much. He is too concerned, like the other political prisoners, about what will happen to him while he is in the Ministry of Love.

I think that Parson's is brainwashed and probably thinks that when he is killed, it will be for the party. They have made him believe that because he said something against the party, he deserves this punishment. It all comes back to the idea that Big Brother is controlling their minds. That's why the party has so much power.
