eggs sizzle to cicadas
They de-lint my fuzzy brain
which gets crushed by strange bodies
on a city bound train

last minute lipstick applied
reflects off scratched windows
on my platform side
screeching rails that render me set
for the sad heartfelt pleas
echoing down my headset

waive my debt
grant me more time
I'll pay and lodge
You sound like you're kind

I key in their grim notes
for another blue moon day
when the taxpayer will say
the same thing (but they might pay!)

hopeful voices utter goodbye
To an office full of nodding heads
who sagely know why
there is nothing new under the sun

A very real and scary topic. To me, the applied lipstick implies the hope that maybe things will turn out. And if not, the subject of the poem will still look her best.
